Is your provider is T-Mo, Good luck. I had the same thing 8 days back and it was nigthtmare for them. They used to change it very easily but now since the upgrade they will have to call RIM and RIM will do it.
Once thing that will be really really beneficial is if you can call your provider or even RIM to find out if that PIN is already assigned to other user account. if So then it takes forever. Just ask your old seller or if it is brand new then no problem.

Thanks for the reply - yes I do use T-mobile. I bought the 7230 from them a 14 months ago and the 7280 from them a few days ago so hopefully I can get it worked out eventually. I will probably give (or sell cheap) my 7230 away and dont want my pin message going to someone else

I always thought the PIN was permanently assigned to the device.

Yes, Don't take me wrong. I am saying that the PIN number is registered in the RIM's system to your email which is [email address]. if you sell this BB to someone else then you better call TMO and ask them to unregister this PIN from YOUR email assignment otherwise other user will habve problem,

I'm also with T-Mobile and exactly the same thing a few weeks ago after the T-mobile upgrade, went from a 6230 to a 6290. It was painless.

Backed up the 6230

Removed the pin card fro the 6230 and put it in the 6290. It fired right up.

Restored the *data* to the 6290 and resent the service books to the 6290.

The 6290 then asked me if I wanted my existing email account reassigned to the 6290's IEMI ....

The PIN is associated with the device, and cannot be changed or moved to another device.
Your [email address] e-mail address is also associated with your device based on the device's PIN/IMEI. This *might* be able to be disassociated with some work on RIM's side... but there's no way they are going to disassociate a PIN from the Handheld and move it to another handheld.

It's a SIM card, not a pin card.

If it's just the email address you want reassigning...you can do that through the BWC...although I know you guys in the US have had an upgrade, so I don't know if that's the case for you.

I will just call the people who use my PIN and let them know that I have a new one.

Does anyone know if there is way to do a look up on the blackberry device by "PIN"

For the webclient, you can log into your account and dis-associate it with your old pin. You can then associate with your new pin. For the people in your address book, you can send them mail or whatever with your new pin, or even send everyone an updated vCard or something. That might be the best thing to do.

cd.
