Default BB7290 Cingular no SMS options - 10-21-2005, 02:15 PM

Hello,
I am very new here.
Excellent info!
I just inheritted a BB7290 via my co. It's on the cingular system on my old crossover ATT service.
I have no BB/RIM data service.
I want to place recieve calls and SMS for the time being and upgrade the service a little later.
I removed the sim from my old Nokia 6200 and place that in the BB. the BB can place calls and receive SMS from other phones and the cingular web site.
When I do receive a SMS message, I do not have the option to reply or compose a new SMS message be it in the compose menu or in the email menu or from contacts. I have no option for PIN messaging.

I called cingular and I was informed I needed new service books and they could not push one to me since I had no RIM data service. I was also told to "find" someone with a BB and BB data service & insert their sim and wait for the new service book push.

This seems a bit odd that I had what I considered to be one quarter the phone/PDA I have now and now I have no SMS.

Ideas?

Thank You for Your time!

Regards

-Nimar-tx

SMS or PIN messages are turned off by applying Policy so you will have to ask you company to send you the new policy where SMSSentCompose = True and SendPINMEssage=True. this is all in Policy.bin file that can put in Policy.inf file.
Good luck. Service book has nothing to do with it.

I upgraded the OS.
Does the new OS (V4.0.2.xx) inherit the security policies / settings from the previous OS?
Is there a way to circumvent that?

Thanks

OS upgrades bypass the policy setting and and they will still be there. You can ask you IT BES guy to send you the updated policy with these features allowed otherwise you are out of luck.

so my it dept is less than enthusiastic about unlocking anything... I'm not blaming them...

after hours of googling and searching the threads in the forums I inclined to ask.

is there anyone willing to share THE policy file I need?

if you be inclined to do so. you can email it to: nimar_tx at yahoo dot com

Thank You!

Hello,
Thanks for the link, although I read that thread as well. It stops cold.
Any other ideas on file procurement?
Thank You Very Much for Your Time!
