I have a Blackberry 7290. Today my friend was messing with the phone trying to unlock it (i have a password on it) and he tried 10 times and after the tenth it locked i think... I didn't see what happened but he was like "uh i think i broke your phone" and now it doesn't have any of the setting i had, nor the messages, nor service or any service provider. My SIM card is still in it..

Entering the password incorrectly 10 times wipes the device of all personal data.
