Phone is old and limited. Media is NOT an option.

The latest version of the Desktop manager is v4.7; that will work with Vista.

The 7290 has no media capability at all.

In order to do much besides voice and text, you need a BlackBerry Data Plan on your account.

You need to contact your carrier. They will add the BlackBerry data Plan to your service. There will be a monthly fee for it.

1st Step in Troubleshooting: Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan?
2nd Step in Troubleshooting: Pull the Battery.

A BlackBerry Data Plan works on any BlackBerry.

Without a data plan. You basically can store info, make calls and use SMS. Basically, a paper weight

You have to use the BLACKBERRY data plan to get the benefits of a blackberry. Can you pick up a newer model on ebay? Maybe a Pearl or Curve?

If your carrier does not offer a true BlackBerry data plan, you can use the phone, SMS, calendar, address book, task list, and memos. That is all.

There were several threads opened on this.

Carrier does offer a BlackBerry Data Plan
BlackBerry Data Plans work on all BlackBerrys, so they don't need a "new one"
OP stated that the BlackBerry Data Plan from their carrier is too expensive for them
