Default Need help with Blackberry 7290 - 09-24-2009, 07:53 AM

I'm new to phones completely, my dad gave me his old Blackberry and i went in to get it activated. Its been two days now and it says "out of coverage, no service" when i try to connect to radio. It's only worked once when i woke up in the morning and turned it on, my friend recieved the texts i sent the night before, other then that it hasn't worked at all. I think my current software is V3.8.0.139 (platform 1.8.0.99), is this outdated and does it matter, or is there a problem with my phone or my service provider. Any tips would be helpful, thanks.

Wirelessly posted (White and Nerdy)

Update your software first. Then see if your issues are cleared up

Does Rogers provide coverage where you use the device? Have you checked coverage with other devices on Rogers?

Have you tried a battery pull?

There isn't a real new OS version for that device. Its pretty old, so I doubt it is the OS, unless there is a corrupt file maybe, but that would give you an error code..

Well, I was just at school and my friend is with Rogers also, we switched sim cards and mine worked perfectly in his phone(6 bar reception). So is it that this phone is just so old and outdated its bad at picking up reception?

Probably a bad/broken device. Given its age, I would get something else.
