Default Reason why 4.0 is not available on Cingular for 7290? - 01-11-2005, 10:17 AM

Any idea why 4.0 is available for every device on Cingular but the 7290? Does this have something to do with software, hardware, or both? Just curious, but getting sick of waiting.

Just trying to garner the actual differences between devices, i.e, the 7280.

The 7290 and the 7100t are the only devices that run v3.8. I do not think it is a coincidence that they are the only two without v4.0 candidates. I was told that there was a bug serious enough for the vendors to reject it, and it had to be corrected by RIM, retested and recertified. Since I believe that, I have not put the Hong Kong version on my 7290s.

Here in the UK, O2 are releasing BES 4 and OS4 this week.

O2's "customers only" download site has OS 4 for the 7290 and 7100 (as well as other models)

7290 is the 4.0.0.185 version as is the 7100.

Its also strange they have the 7100 OS 4 code on their site because they don't actually sell it yet so I guess it is imminent.

As an O2 UK 7920 owner I have checked with support and they are telling us to use 4.0.0.185.

I have been running Hong Kong OS 4.0.0185 on my 7920 with no problems for about 2 weeks (only using BES 3.6 though).

Is it .185 for 7290 now? As far as I knew .185 was the carrier branding and the actual version from RIM was still 4.0.0.172

Default I'm using HK v4 7290 w/Cingular. No problems - 01-12-2005, 10:01 PM

Am using HK version. Except for some keyboard shortcuts not working, I've seen no problems.

Make sure you rename vendor.xml if you decide to install this to a Cingular device.

well, when someone gets that 7100v handheld code from O2, i want a copy. thnx.

also, TMO will supposedly be releasing OS4 in the next 3 weeks, but i'm not sure if this includes the 7100. if it does, i would expect Cingular to be offering the code for the 7290 around the same time. i would also expect them to be offering the OS4 code at the time they release their 7100g model (next month).

I just put 3.8 back on my 7290. The HK ver. made my screen less readable with the backlight off. Also the volume was much lower with and without the BT headset. Can't use BBToday now, but Cingular says that their 4.0 will be out 1st week of FEB. They did not know the ver. # of 4.0 at the time or the differences. They did say that there were many recent fixes to the OS (nothing specific).
