Default Cingular 7290 v 4.0 out 1st week of FEB - 01-12-2005, 12:50 PM

Just talked to Cingular BB tech support. Says 4.0 will be out 1st week of FEB. Just reverted back to v3.8 from Hong Kong v4.0. Screen is better now. Unfortunately, BBToday does not work anymore. Guess I will have to wait a few more weeks. BTW, the password keeper is still on my BB even with 3.8! Currently trying to get all of the WIX line items restored on my account. They were removed for no apparent reason the first of the year, no HTML browsing!

Why did you revert back? Where you having some problems with the HK version on the 7290?

Thanks

The screen was hard to read without the backlight. It is much more brilliant with the 3.8. The phone volume with and without the BT headset was much lower. I think that was it. When Cingular gets 4.0 I will try it. The tech rep said their are many new fixes with their 4.0. He did not mention any or what version of 4.0 they will release.

Great, I can't wait! I have a sortuva newbie question. Will we get some sort of decent instant messaging support with v4.0? This AIM forwarding is really mickeymouse; I use linux at home and it doesn't seem to sign me off properly off and forward to my BB when I log off. I also have problems missed SMS, or get packet error messages. Argh! I just want a reasonably smooth IM experience, and the 7290 seems like it would be a great platform for it! 8)

There are no default packages for the 7290 (other than AIM's refreshing site). Nor are there any decent free packages. Your best bet is to take a look at the IM thread with Verichat, IM+, Webmessenger, etc... I use verichat and am very pleased with it. It's more than worth the money.

Are there any really advantages of going to 4.0 if you are using 3.8 and a BES ?

What enhancements will 4.0 provide in this enviroment ? I think JPG display is one but what else ?

The biggest advantages of going to 4.0 if you have a BES is the Enterprise Activation, which allows admins to activate devices on the BES wirelessly, and users are able to synchronize their address book, tasks, and memopad wirelessly instead of syncing with their PC.
