Default Upgraded 7290 with HongKong 4.1 Firmware - 01-16-2006, 06:15 PM

I just upgraded my 7290 to the new 4.1 version of the firmware posted on the Hong Kong distribution. I can report that the Bluetooth now allows the address book to transfer on the BMW 320i just like it does with the 8700 however it takes longer. Now the 7290 will be more usable in the car than it was before. The menu in options now works like the 8700 menu.

Call me dense but I couldn't find an English 4.1 package on the CSL website, did you just use the Chinese one?

Ok Dense, yes, the package is in English and you just opt not to install the Chinese language support.

Not much of an improvement. Tried adding 7290 to my desktop, and it crashed and rebooted on me :(

There appears to be a 4.1 available for the 7100g, which I will now attempt to load onto my 7105t currently running Vodafone software.

Just uploaded to my 7105t. Themes work great, Spanish SureType was kept from my Vodafone load, and all data restored fine.

Is there a difference between 4.1 and 4.0?

Yes, substantial differences in Bluetooth support and there are other more minor changes to support 8700.

Default FW 4.1 Desktop manager compatablility - 01-17-2006, 12:15 PM

I downloaded the firmware but my desktop manager did not recognize it when I plugged in my BlackBerry. I removed the 2.49 version but still no luck updating. I have a 7290 on BES. Any thoughts?

I figured it out. I deleted the "vendor" file and was able to update. Thanks!

Default Stupid Question, Edge on 7290? - 01-17-2006, 04:38 PM

I probally know this anwser, but will upgrading the 7290 to 4.1 firmware enable Edge? My guess is it will not as that requires different hardware.

Thoughts?

BTW, I think 4.1 rocks. Have found quite a few nice little changes and no downside...

Thanks,

I just did a clean wipe with javaloader and install 4.1, so far the difference that I can tell is under THEMES or the PICTURE folder, I click the wheel and I can download additional themes, ringtone, wallpaper from rims.
