I have searched for the answer, and found references to v3.8 being almost exactly v4, but I can't seem to enable wireless PIM sync on my Cingular v3.8 on BESv4.

That is a 4.0 feature. Since you already have BES 4.0, you are most of the way there

Hopefully just a few more weeks.

I have the same handheld running v3.8, unsure of my company's BES server. So far only the calendar can be wirelessly synchronized. You gotta tweak the conversion settings on the Desktop Manager.
