Default my 7290 keeps dialing randomly from the holster - 01-16-2005, 11:08 PM

Is anybody else having a problem with their BlackBerry 7290 calling people when in the holster? Mine recently has started calling people (the most recent person I called) when I put it in the holster. Folks keep calling me and telling me they get a call from me and then can't hear anything but muffled noise. Any idea what might be causing this?

Are you putting in the holster correctly? The back goes to the open side or the face towards the clip (your hip). There is a magnet in the holster that tells the screen and keyboard to shut off. If you put it in wrong it won't.

I've had a problem like this when using my bluetooth headset. Sometimes when I hang up the phone and put it down (not even in the holster) it dials the last number I just called.

I had a similar problem with my previous Blackberry. I think I was pushing buttons as I put the Blackberry in the holster. My solution was to go to Options, Security, and change Lock Handheld Upon Holstering to Yes. Every time I put in in the holster it locks the keyboard. When I pull it out I have to hit the track wheel button twice to unlock it. You can put a password on it so that it is really locked. I have password disabled.

Make sure it's not a hardware issue - the holster has a magnet that disables the BlackBerry when it's in the holster. If you can find the right place to place the holster over the keyboard of the BlackBerry, you can try to press on the the "make call button" (usually on the top of the BlackBerry) - it should not do anything with the screen blanked out...
