Default Slow 7290? - 02-06-2005, 03:23 PM

I have just been "upgraded" from a 7230 to the 7290. I was told that the major difference was only the addition of Bluetooth - very cool!

BUT I notice that the 7290 has significantly slower response time - there is a noticeable lag between pressing the wheel and a new screen opening, there is also lag on scrolling and searching in the address book.

Has anyone else noticed this? Can I disable something or change a setting to speed it up?

It has OS version v3.8.0.139 loaded.

If you upgrade the handheld code to v4.0 do these problems continue? I've heard of these issues with 7290s before.

Version 3.6/3.7 on a 7230 is faster than Version 3.8/4.0 on either the 7230 or 7290 though.

However, Version 4.0 should be slightly faster than 3.8 .... The 7290 with Version 4.0 is faster than the 7230 with Version 4.0 installed. Version 3.8 is slightly slower than the newest version of 4.0.

This means to improve 7290 performance, you should upgrade your 4.0 as soon as you can.

Thanks,

Thanks Mark - but I notice that version 4 is not supported by Cingular yet - so I guess I will have to wait.

nor is it supported by rogers yet.
Slowness sometimes is quite bothersome.

My Cingular rep called, along with BES and sent me the 4.0 code for Cingular. It has been released but Blackberry has not posted it on their web site. (I received it on Friday)

Thanks - that's good news.

has it made a difference to the responsiveness?

I need to check on that. I've only been using it for a couple of days. I should have a answer for you later today or tomorrow.

That's good to hear. I just emailed my Cingular rep this morning and he's "checking on it". I'm running the HK 4.0 now. I'd like to get some supported code on there.
