I currently have a Nextel 7520 and am trying to decide if I should switch to a Sprint 7250. The reasons I am considering the switch is because of the EVDO on the Sprint device, and that starting very soon, I can tether it to my laptop. I have EVDO in my area (Greensboro NC) and I use my BB for a great deal of web access.

My question is:
- Is it worth it to switch? Is the speed of accessing web sites really that much faster on a BB with EVDO versus an IDEN BB?

Cost is not a factor since either will be paid for by my company.

I've never used a Sprint EVDO device, but from everything I've read out here iDEN is the SLOWEST of all carriers. So anything else would be faster. I'd jump to Sprint in a minute if I got a signal in the building where I work (since my device is work provided and mandated)

Also, cost being a non-factor would seem to make it a slam dunk.

If you don't use Direct Connect too much or at all then switch. I have a Sprint 7250, but Im considering the IDEN 7520 because I use DC quite heavily.

that's why A LOT of people stay with nextel...Direct Connect

I hardly ever use Direct Connect. Internet more than anything (not counting phone and Email).

I can't compare because I've never used the 7520, but I have read its the slowest (and biggest) of the bunch. Be warned that the ring volume on the 7250 is kind of low even when set to high. The David English ringers help. The 7250 is, however, a nice device. You'll gain the ability to send REAL SMS too and its slimmer than the 7520.

Hang on till the end of the month when the 7130 launches then decide.

If it's paid for, I'd say go for it providing the sprint coverage is good in your area.

I am not too interested in the 7130 because I use it for HEAVY email and web. I like the full QWERTY keyboard. I just want to make sure I will see a noticeable increase in Web Speed.

Do a search for "sprint" and "evdo" or just browse through the forums. You'll get alot of peoples responses about their speed tests. Also note, you have to understand that EVDO is not offered everywhere yet, as sprint has yet to upgrade their sites to fully give you EVDO, so if you're in a large metro market, you should check to see if they have EVDO coverage for you.

I have the Sprint 7250, before evdo , and after i upgraded it to 1xEV, and i noticed a big difference in surfing speeds. An example would be google local (or google maps) doing a search on the 1xRTT network was a bit time consuming, and now with my 4.1 and EV upgrade, it was very fast.

Browsing will depend on what content you're viewing, but in general it is faster than the 1xRTT.

But like everyone else says , if your'e a DC user, then the 7520 is the way to go . My opinion, the 7520 is a brick. It does the job, but compared to the regular 7250, it is larger.

Go for it bdiv, then you can sell me your 7520 dirt cheap.

You will see significant speed differences on the web surfing. I can tell from 1x to EVDO. EVDO will be like instantaneous.

Keep in mind to that with EVDO your data connection will automatically pause (If actively downloading/browsing) to allow voice calls to come in instead of sending them to voicemail. Not sure how iDen handles this but this is a huge benefit of 1XEVDO vs 1xRTT.

EVDO is nice.

While theoretically iDEN data is the slowest, the 7520 and the 7290/7100g seem to download at about the same speed.

Tethering an iDEN device is not worth it.
