Default Any issues with porting 7230 to Cingular? - 03-19-2005, 06:18 PM

Hi All -

I'm currently with T-Mobile and have the BB 7230. I'm thinking about switching to Cingular to get the Sony Ericsson T637. On occasion, I prefer to carry a phone instead of my BB. I've read the FAQ regarding the issues with the frequencies. While most Cingular markets support 1900, some are still on the 850, so the 7230 won't work in those areas as it only supports 900/1800/1900 MHz. I live in SoCal and occasionally travel, but spend most of my time in this area.

Is there any problem in porting my 7230 to Cingular? Will I have to get it unlocked before I switch? FWIW, I did buy my 7230 from T-Mobile. Will Cingular give me any problems when I try to activate the BB service on my account when I didn't purchase the BB from them? Are there any things I need to do to make it a smooth transition?

Thanks!

Josh

You will need to get the device unlocked as T-Mobile locks their devices to their network. If you've been with T-Mobile for some time and are in good standings (billing) they'll probably provide you with an unlock code.

Make sure you ask for the unlock code before you tell them you are switching. Tell them you are going to travel to Europe and want to get a prepaid sim card while there.
