Default creating groups on a 7230 problem - 11-20-2006, 05:17 PM

Hi all
Noob here
picked up a second hand bb 7230, just using it as a basic phone at the mo.
Cant see how to get the add groups function working tho
I have downloaded the user guide read it a dozen times but must be missing something.
(tclick stands for thumbwheel click)
I have some names n numbers in the address book.
i tclick, menu pops up i select new group
new group window pops up i enter a name and tclick
menu pops up i select add member
address book pops up i select a name
tclick...here is where it goes all wrong.
Im expecting a menu with Continue on it.
but what i get is the add new contact menu...ie
new address
view
edit
delete
options
sim phone book

I have tried it a few times now and just lost as to why it dont work.I suspect somethign elsewhere has to be setup correctly?

Maybe I should also explain what my interpretation on Groups is too.
I was hoping to create different groups of numbers, like work related numbers, personal, shops, etc etc.. making it easy to search/find what im after.

In order to create a group you must have an Email address associated with it

That would be categories. Edit a number in your address book. Then click "categories". Put that number in the appropriate category. You can create your own categories, as well. Then when you are looking them up you use the "filter" option from the address book...

"Groups" are groups of email addresses.

Could be...I never had one. Make sure you're using the latest software and maybe you'll get the feature. I don't use it myself.

To add a contact to a group you must have something in the email field. It can be a single character, no need for a bogus email address. Just put a dash there and it should be fine.

kinda gotten around it. I simply put "VIP" or "work" in the email section. having anything or at least something in there allowed me to create and save to a group.
at least it achieves what i set out too...gee and its only wed
