Default USB Power Connection Problem - Has anyone experienced this?

Hello all - Quick question.... I have recently experienced issues with the mini USB port when connecting the power cable to charge the battery.. Basically TWICE I have damaged the left most pin out of the 5 on the connector to a point where they won't connect any longer.

They have replaced these phones for me and I have since purchased a cradle to avoid the issue but want to know if this is just an issue I have created. You would think it's pretty simple to just plug them together....

I have seen it here and there, check plugging it directly into the computer, bypassing any hubs etc... It's rare that a reinstall of the latest blackberry software doesn't fix it though.
