Default Data Plan Needed For IM?

Please Login to Remove!

I have had my Pearl for about 6 months now. I just got my wife one last week for her birthday. **NOTE: She has the new OS on her phone, I have yet to upgrade.** Anyway, she does not have the Data Plan, she isnt a techy. I do have the data plan. But i do not see the Oz application in her menu. I was under the impression that the Oz app for AIM or Yahoo would use text charges, not linked to the Data Plan. Can anyone square this away for me?

Thanks.

P.S. We are both on TMobile.

The Oz messenger with T-Mo uses your text messages,
for best I recommend the Jive Talk app which uses your data plan.
Unless you have unlimited text messaging

The OZ messenger is pushed to the device through the data plan. No data plan, no push.
I believe there is a site where you can download it, but I don't know if there is a non OTA version available. Google would be advisted here.

That's not entirely accurate for TMobile. I purchased my 8100 from TMo WITHOUT the data plan, and it came with the OZ messenger pre-loaded.

You might call TMo and ask if they can help.

Some did have it pre-loaded in the past. I know mine did.
But now, it gets pushed.

Given that its not there now, it probably wasn't preloaded.

Agreed. My point was that since TMo preloads the app on some phones, and not on others, they may be able to help the OP get the app on his wife's phone.

To some, it fills a single purpose which is all they want on the phone. Everything else is useless to them.

Give tech support a call, maybe they can direct you on where / how ot get it installed. It was pre-loaded on both of my previous T-Mobile BB's, a 7105T and an 8700G.

I agree with both statements.

And a side note if you just want Yahoo via text it is very easy without any apps. That is what I use.

Yahoo! Messenger for SMS

Hmmm! That's a great idea, I just tried using this from my T-Mobile phone and it's rejecting SMS messages to either 58242 or 58243 (both numbers appear on the page you linked to)

Any idea what could be causing that?
