Newbie here who is anxiously awaiting Vzw Pearl 2 BB. Trying to learn as much as I can in advance. I apologize if this has been answered in another thread but couldn't find it doing a search.

Anyway.

Can you sync Outlook contacts from two different computers? I am assuming that to do so you would have to load BB Desktop Manager on both machines. On one machine I would only need to sync it once as it has 236 contacts that I only need to get once. I tried to export contacts and sent to new computer but it won;t work for me.

If this is correct how do I handle that I have categories on each computer that are the same but have totally different contact names. Do I have to go in and rename category so all are unique? Is there an easy way to change category name for a group of contacts or is it a one at a time deal?

Would calendar syncing follow the same logic?

Mike, yes, you can sync one BB to two computers. Load DM to both PCs.

The categories should not matter in what you are trying to do. If you want to remove the categories, it would not hurt anything.

I tried to sync with my work and home PC using the BB as the middle man, and it just plain did not work.

I think part of the problem is that it doesn't do a "full sync" each time, I think it is looking at records of changes, or something similar. The symptoms I saw were (for example) editing a contact on my work PC, syncing with BB, having the BB properly pick up that change, then syncing with my home PC, and not having my home PC see that any change was made.

I tried a few times, but could not figure it out. I gave up and am now syncing with only one PC.

What I think I may do rather than syncing to 2 computers (only need contact list from one computer one time) is to export my contact list to an excel file and send it to my home computer as an email attachment and then import it into my home contact list.

As my Pearl will not be here until tomorrow I will attempt to help with my Palm experience. In the palm environment this would be easy as you can tell the sync process on the second desktop that the handheld overwrites the desktop. The part of this process that I'm unsure of is the fact that I do not know if you can do this in the Blackberry Desktop manager.

The process could be reversed, If you brought home work, synced to your home computer, make changes then sync back to the handhels with desktop overwrites handhels, goto work and sync, handheld overwrites desktop.

I hope that makes sense but it will only work if the Blackberry Desktop Manager allows you to change the sync options. Until my Pearl arives tomorrow I can't even check on my end as the Desktop Manager will not go far enough without a connection.

I hope this will help at least be able to see if it is possible.

Here is how I did it. My work PC is primary so I have the BB desktop software on that PC. I have used Yahoo as the go between.

I have added a secondary folder on my work PC for home contacts. This home folder is synched to Yahoo. I also synch it at home from the same Yahoo account. Since the Yahoo account is synching to both my work and home PC's, both locations are up-to-date. Changes can be made either place and will be synched by the Yahoo synch software.

This same thing can be done for your calendar, tasks, note pads. I do it for all of these without any problems.

here's something I have been using for a while now...

I use a Pearl which is synced with my work PC via BES, the work PC is synced to a personal windows mobile PDA (via ActiveSync) and my home PC is synced to my work PC (Outlook Contacts, Calendar, Tasks) via Plaxo

Which also syncs with my Google calendar as well!

Plaxo works with Outlook, Outlook Express (obviously without a calendar) and various other bits and bobs!
