Default Please help with set up APN info (no blackberry data plan)

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

my provider sent me this info in an SMS message...

I tried to enter the APN settings and did a battery pull.

But Opera Mini (and gmail application) both do not work. These are only non-bb internet apps I tried. Opera says "failed to connect", gmail something like that too:

I am confused by all the info offered in the SMS... what do I need to use and where do I put it?

I tried putting wap.ab.kyivstar.net in APN field in Advanced TCP settings.

I know internet works with this provider since my other phone (Sony Ericsson W880i has no problems with internet)

They also mentioned that my Pearl is "Activated" for Internet. I mean on their end.

SMS:

GPRS access point(APN):wap.ab.kyivstar.net, IP:10.10.10.10,Port: 9201(or 8080 for WAP2.0), User name and Password - empty, Homepage: ht tp: //wap.starport.com.ua

Go to Options - Advanced - TCP

Unsername and Password leave it blank

You may have to play around with the information from this web site - Mobile WALKIETALKIE - check the APN settings at the end.

Internet.com works with Rogers. Aznx read your profile and assumed you were using Rogers.

another question... one of the other carriers just introduced blackberry in ukraine... but I asked them about if they supported the pearl (for blackberry data) and they really didn't know how to answer my question... just sending generic lengthy answers.

They are not selling pearl here. Just some other blackberries. Are all blackberry data plans the same? I mean can I sign up with my pearl and it should work? Would be kinda cool to have email and be able to download OTA.

Tough to say if they would have the right Service Books for the Pearl. Really hard to say without trying it.

hi... I'm still quite confused...

1) what is necessary to use third party blackberry internet apps? Just set the APN # the provider gives you and then battery pull? There are no other TCP or other settings anywhere? Or service books? (still not entirely sure what services books are)

2) should it work with any GPRS / EDGE provider? or must the provider also have blackberry data plan (even if you are not signed up for it?) If provider does not have blackberry data plans, then should all of such providers work? Or is it hit or miss?

note: I have regular SIM card running fine ... my phone is unlocked... it is rogers branded... SMS and regular phone calls work fine. I see GPRS at top right (and sometimes EDGE... but maybe I'm not seeing EDGE anymore after provider "set me up" on their end). Data connection refused but I read somewhere that is displayed always if there is no bb data plan. My other non-BB phone (sony ericsson) I bought here works just fine with internet. They did something on their end and settings autodownloaded into it.

I can't believe it! it works, with the info you have above. I tried similar that I found on internet, but password was igprs and it didn't work.

Also in their sms they wrote wap.ab.etc... but maybe that was a typo and should have been www.ab.etc... like you have above? anyhow now it is working with info from above.

thanks a million! saves me a trip downtown to their offices
