Question key tones - 11-14-2007, 10:55 PM

Is there a way to silence the number keys while dialing? I don't understand why I can set keytones to silent in the options and this does not shut the tones off while dialing. I don't want them to beep. You can do this w/ any other phone but I cannot w/ the Pearl. Any help?

Sorry no can do on the key tones. if you press a number key they will beep. no way to turn them off. idk why RIM does it.

Not saying that you are wrong but can someone else please confirm this. This is horrible ! Are you saying that if I'm sitting in the conference room and need to use Keyboard to dial the number, everyone in the room will hear me dialing 10 numbers. Wow ... this is unacceptable in my book.

The only way to do this is put your BB Sound profile on Quiet, OR Vibrate.

That does not work on my 8320. Setting the Profile to Vibrate or Quiet does NOT silence the keytones.

Well obviously I would have tried that, already. I mean that is the point. My phone IS on quiet or vibrate. Shouldn't the phone then be quiet? Makes no sense. Very poor design.

Can you use the Quiet profile, but turn up the ring volume in that profile so you have silent keys but an audible ring? Then you'd still have the vibrate profile left for full "silent" operation...

Are you saying that your keytones are still ON when your phone is on QUIET / VIBRATE ? If so, check your settings ? I switched mine to QUIET or VIBRATE and keytones are OFF. Simple as that !

Apparently v4.3 which is on the 8130 disables the key tones. Frindajm has the 8100 which does not have v4.3 available yet.

Yeah, the 8100 doesn't seem to give me that option. It's the loudest "quiet" phone I have ever seen.

I was wondering the same thing for the first couple days as well. i did find a way to silence that key beep when dialling though.
-scroll and click on the profile app.
-scroll down and click on advanced
-scroll over quiet and click the menu button
-click edit
-then scroll down to phone
-take mute off
-adjust all settings to your preference
-save
Viola now you have a silent key tone dial.
