i have been searching all day and no luck (please help)

i am trying to get my pearl with tmobile to connect as a modem
im using windows xp

i have installed the new desktop manager my bb is up to date,
my blackberry shows up on ports 3 and 4 but when i go to query the modem i always get
"the modem failed to respond. make sure it is properly connected and turned on.if it is an internal modem or is connected, verify that the interrupt for the port is properly set."

now just to clarify:
my desktop manager is open.
my blackberry is plugged in.
all my software is up to date.
i have read over 30 pages about using a blackberry as a modem.
i have seen this question asked but never answered.

thank you in advanced!

ok i am not blind. i have read this FAQ and many others more than enough to recite them from the back of my head.

but i can even get past the query modem step and if you read the FAQ

and if you read the FAQ it says to plug in your blackberry using usb and then open desktop manager.

and then see if it is functioning (query modem)
if the query doesnt work to uninstall all your blackberry manager files and delete the left over ones.

i have done all that and cannot get past the query modem part.

thanks for the link but can you actually help with my problem.

Great way to start off the day, and to ask for my help!

You didn't say, but after unistalling DM and deleting all the left over files, did you re-install the latest version of Desktop Manager? You should.

I'll post the link to it, if you are offended by my doing, please kindly keep it to yourself this time. You want Version 4.2, Service Pack 2.
BlackBerry Desktop Manager Downloads - BlackBerryFAQ

Another very experienced user asked you to post specific details if you still had questions. Will you, something other other "query doesn't work"?

Good luck with it.

a great way to answer my question would have been actually putting thought into it instead of sending me the link to a page i have memorized! and told you so.

and if you read my whole post i said i already tried that and my software is up to date now.

you say i should make sure i reinstall desktop manager but i clearly said i had it open.

please let me know how i could have it open if i didnt have it reinstalled?

Perhaps you picked the wrong day to try install your BB as a modem. The instructions in the FAQ work clearly and are stated clearly. If yours is not, I would recommend rebooting both device (PC and BB) and starting fresh with both from a clean boot.

Being rude to people who have honestly tried to help you (whether or not their suggestion was useful) is no way to encourage them or others to post. Your frustration is causing you to behave poorly...to your own detriment.

Don't worry...I won't be back.

its true i have been extremely frustrated with this and my nerves are a little fed up with all the failed attempts.

now i have narrowed it down to something with my computer because i went to my family's house for thanksgiving and tried it on their computer and it worked like a charm first try the modem query found it queried it first try so i came back home and tried it one more time and got nothing.

same as it was before.

i will try to reboot everything delete everything again and reinstall it all again.

sorry for the angry fed up words.

and thank you for the support and help.

the only thing I am having a problem with is I can't add in the "extra initialization" information. There is the blank box under the advance options tab in the properties for my modem. everything else is running the way it should, but I can't input anything into the box. what do I do from here? everything else is set up correctly

Does anyone know what I need to do? I am going out of town tomorrow by train and this would be very very helpful for me on my trip. It's gonna be a 9 hour train ride haha so if anyone has any idea what I should do that would be great!

eh sorry I figured it out! Stupid Vista needing Administrator permission to do everything! I am using my pearl as a modem right now! heck yes!
