Question Please help the Tech Moron with software issues!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi!

My laptop crashed a while ago which had my Blackberry desktop software stuff on it. I've recently gotten a new computer (that has been the hugest PITA I've ever had to deal with)! I tried going on the Blackberry site to download the software so I can plug my phone into my computer to save files and stuff, but it didn't work. Then due to other reasons I did a complete Windows reinstall and reformatted the entire hard drive and erased everything. Now it's all back up and running again (badly, might I mention) and I've done search after search after search of these forums and everywhere else in general to try and figure out what it is that I'm looking for. It seems like there are too many download options (versions and languages and this and that) and those that I've chosen so far have not worked at all. If it installs, it won't run, or if it downloads, it won't install (some win32 application error). Can someone please point me in the very specific direction of the correct software that I need to download, install, etc to get my phone to talk to my computer? I just want to be able to use the desktop software that lets you back up your text messages and such and then also be able to open the photo files on my phone and transfer them to my computer. Thank You Thank You Thank You in advance!

I bought my phone back in March through Cingular, now AT&T.
It's a black 8100 Blackberry Pearl.
My POS computer is a Velocity Micro ProSonix™ DAW
with (supposedly) this stuff in it:
Genuine Intel® G33 mATX Motherboard with DDR2, PCI Express, 1333MHz FSB, RAID DG33TL
Intel® Core™ 2 Quad processor Q6600, quad 2.4GHz cores, 8MB L2 Cache
DDR2 Memory 4096MB Corsair™ DDR2 PC6400 DDR2-800 (4x1024)
PCX Video 256MB eVGA™ NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8600 GT
E-MU 1212m Digital Audio System
Hard Drive 1 500GB Hitachi 7200rpm 16MB Cache SATA 300 w/NCQ
Hard Drive 2 500GB Hitachi 7200rpm 16MB Cache SATA 300 w/NCQ
500 Watt Velocity Micro® Power Supply

And I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium.

I live in California and speak English.... only English.

Thanks very very much for your patience with this non-tech savvy user!

In English? Well, OK.

You want to download the "Desktop Manager" program, which is available from the RIM BlackBerry Web Site at BlackBerry - BlackBerry Desktop Software | Applications to Synchronize Your BlackBerry and Desktop Data

Start there, and look on the left hand side. I can recommend downloading and then running the one labeled "Software v4.2 SP2" which will allow you to back up data and copy media back and forth.

Good Luck and welcome...

LMAO.... yeah thats my biggest problem. I don't understand what all these numbers and junk mean!!! Do I need to download and install ALL of these?!?!?

System Requirements Version Requirements
Version 4.x Software v4.3
Software v4.2 SP2
Software v4.2 SP1
Software v4.2
Software v4.1 SP1
Software v4.1
Software v4.0 SP1
Software v4.0

I don't understand what version or whatever a person that speaks english (and not Telkomsel Indonesia or ChineseEnglish or anything else) with Windows Vista with an older 8100 pearl that's monopolized by AT&T should use!

Argh! Am I the only one on the planet who doesn't get this?!?

Sorry I've just been uber frustrated with everything computer related as of late due to too many misc issues.

What is the difference between
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
and
BlackBerry - BlackBerry Desktop Software | Applications to Synchronize Your BlackBerry and Desktop Data
???

Does NA.blackberry like Not Apply to me or something?

You must have missed the section of my response that says "I can recommend downloading and then running the one labeled "Software v4.2 SP2"

I made a suggestion. I told you which one to download.

Not sure why you are laughing.

NA = North America.

Yesterday I spent two hours downloading "422_b020_multilanguage" (90.5 MB (94,994,432 bytes) and I saved it to my desktop, but when I try to open/run it all I get is, "C:\Users\Rallyette\Desktop\422_b020_multilanguage .exe is not a valid Win32 application". I don't even know what Win 32 is.

I have made a suggestion. That's all I can do. I can't help you as to why a file you downloaded yesterday didn't work.

Thanks guys for your help. ;) When I downloaded "Software v4.2 SP2" and then tried to run it, I got this:
Error 1316.A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\Users\RALLYE~1\AppData\Local\Temp\WZSEO.TMP\Bla ckBerry Desktop Software.msi

:(

This seems to me like this problem is driving you crazy! That sucks that you can't get it to work.

Two hints for installing on Windows Vista, 1. Right click on the file and choose Run As Administrator, 2. If you are using Windows Live One Care for virus protection disable the protection before trying to install.
