Default 8130 Verizon Setting Off Store Alarms

Please Login to Remove!

I've looked around to no avail . .. Is anyone else having this problem?
I set off some store security alarms both entering and exiting the store.
I've not yet started debugging various connections (bluetooth, etc. ) but am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?

wonder if there is some sort of security device in teh phone for theft prevention that VZW didn't deactivate? usually that's on the packaging though.

I am getting a pearl next week, so I hope that is not a regular issue!

have you tried it with the phone powered off?

Sounds like an asset control tag. Previous poster was correct control tags are on the packaging....you didn't happen to buy a holster or case for it did you? I would check that if you did. Not sure if the OP is male or female but did you buy a new purse or pouch around the same time?? I just can't imagine how the BB would trip it.

Good luck and hopefully you find it before you get harrassed TOO much!

I am going to test different theories over the next couple of days . . . turn off phone, turn off bluetooth, etc. (Bluetooth was active on my old phone without any issues) It has to my Pearl 2.

I ordered my phone online and it was sent directly from Verizon. The only accessory that is on it is the rubber "wrapper". It's definitely not the purse or anything else in it.

The alarm system at CVS last evening did not sound, however their system could be down or it could be a frequency thing. This is crazy weird and not an issue walking into stores, though I get funny looks, but certainly an issue when I leave.

It might be the magnet inside of the case you are using for the BlackBerry.

You know, you don't have to stop when those things go off. i've watched store people glance over to the door but not do a thing....

I have the 8130 and ordered it online also. Never had a security alarm go off because of it. I have been in/out with and without bluetooth also and no alarm. I even had my bt gps puck in my pocket last week and no alarm.

Did you buy a new pair of shoes recently? They put the tags in the heals so you cannot wear them out and I had that set them off at a Wal-mart once until they deactivated my shoes. It was quite funny actually, holding my feet up to the scanner to deactivate them. My wife got a good laugh out of it.

This happened to me all the time with my 7100g from Cingular, especially at Best Buy. I never figured out exactly what it was, except that it wasn't Bluetooth. The problem just seemed to go away eventually, and I can't explain why. It didn't happen with my 7130e from Verizon, and it hasn't happened yet with my new 8130 from Verizon.

It's gotta be an asset tag somewhere. Not every store has the same either. I did the same thing recently with a new wallet. I purchased the wallet from Kohls and used it for several days without setting off any alarms until I hit RiteAid. Boy was I surprised!
