Default 8130 and locking up

Please Login to Remove!

One problem that I didn't notice too much when I got the 8130 but now notice frequently is that my 8130 locks up a lot. For example, I would check the Gmail application and it would load but then the screen would freeze when I select to open an email... then none of the buttons would work. So I power down using the End button... and when it powers back up, I can't click on anything - nothing will open... so I end up doing a battery pull. It doesn't only happen with Gmail... sometimes with JiveTalk as well. But the point is I've been having to do a battery pull a lot lately. Has anyone else been experiencing this? Is this something that I should bring it back to the store for or is it normal?

I experienced the same problem. I reloaded the OS and everything seems to be working fine.

You can download the desktop manager & OS here:

Slowness and lagging can be caused by memory issues.

Menu>options>Status (What's your free memory)?

If it's low you may want to do a battery pull and see if performance picks up. If it does and your memory was low you may want to free some memory

Search the FAQ's on Freeing memory.

Good luck!

It's definitely a third party app problem...most likely related to the incompatibility with OS 4.3. I was having similar problems and was able to figure out that JiveTalk was the offending app. I uninstalled it and haven't had a single freeze up since.

I'm running JiveTalk and haven't had a problem. The only problem I ran across with JiveTalk is that it won't let you edit an account, and if you try to delete an account it freezes....was told that this is a known issue with JiveTalk and the new OS.

I have experienced 2 lock-ups in the 2 weeks that I've had the 8130. Both times it coincided with the "standby" mode. The first time I used the mute button to put the phone in standby and then almost immediately took it out. Keys were unresponsive and I had to pull the battery. The second time I started putting the unit into standby as my display timeout kicked in. Again, same unresponsive keys, had to pull the battery.

I had only Google Maps installed as a 3rd party app at the time, but I was on the home screen when entering standby mode.

They have a fix for this bug now.... unfortunately, they didn't update the version number so it wasn't clear that the fix was available... if you go to beejive :: JiveTalk mobile messaging and install OTA, it will tell you that JiveTalk already exists and will ask you if you want to replace version 1.0.3 with 1.0.3. Answer yes... once you have completed the reinstall, the problem with locking up when editing/deleting accounts should be fixed.

Mine did the same thing... locked up about a half dozen times. It's Verizon's problem now as I returned and went back to T-Mo. I'll wait for the WiFi 8130 to be released without the Verizon software.

I have had similar issues as well. When it locks up, I also can not access the phone. Several resets are required to bring it back to life. I don't have any third party applications installed, and plenty of free memory...

which carrier and/or OS are you running? I'm running 4.3.0.71 (Sprint) and haven't had any lockup problems in the past couple weeks.... and I have quite a few 3rd party apps loaded.
