Default BB Modem and VPN

Please Login to Remove!

I have been searching all over the place for this answer and can't seem to find it.

I have been able to set up my Toshiba tablet (WIN XP) and my 8100 as a tethered modem. Seems to work fine. I can get internet access etc.

I also have a VPN account that allows me access to my organization's network so I can get onto my network drives, e-mail etc. The VPN works fine through a "standard" internet access (Cogeco, Rogers etc) but will not function properly through the tethered modem.

The VPN software (via the modem) is actually able to connect to my organizations VPN server, however once connected, it will not connect my network drives or my e-mail.

Has anyone had any success with this? Am I missing a setting or 2? I am using Rogers wireless on my Pearl and using Rogers APN to connect the tethered modem. Any assistance would be helpful. Thanks

What VPN client do you use? Do you have it set to prompt you to log off on connect?

I've seen the same issue where if it doesn't prompt you to log off right away, it will not map any network drives.

We're having the same issues using Sprint BB's as modems. They connect fine for the internet, but as soon as we try to connect via VPN (Extend 360 or Cisco VPN client) we run into problems.

We use a Bell client with entrust. I don't know if it has that setting but I will check. Thanks.

I may be crazy here, and what I am going to say was in regard to T-Mobile with tethering and VPN. If I remember correctly T-Mobile had to make a change in the normal data provisioning to allow VPN access. It was a while back I had to deal with this but know we got it to work. I hope that little informaton may help you.

Thanks. I think I need to call Rogers support. The problem is that term is a bit of an oxymoron!!

Here's an update. I discovered that some VPN servers like a public IP address. Apparently Rogers uses a proxy server with assigned addresses for its internet access. They want $10 per month for a VPN access account with the tethered modem!! Also when I use the BB as a tethered modem it changes the network from EdGE to GSM and I need to reboot the BB to get it back.
