Default Sirius Radio Works On My Blackberry Pearl 8130......check It Out.. - 11-24-2007, 12:48 PM

i found this on howardforums, lg voyager thread..i tried it on my pearl and got sirius radio to stream...works pretty good...

"I figured it'd be nice to share this, considering the potential it has for using the Voyager as a streaming media device.

Credit goes to brittt1, (the tutorial creator), and others that discovered this trick over on the everythingicafe.com forums. I merely adapted the procedure (on the Orb side) to work with the Voyager. Also, credit goes to the sole poster who hinted at the fact that this might be possible on one of the Voyager threads.

This should also work with any other phone that can handle RTSP streams natively, so experiment away. It should also work with video streams as well, provided the computer acting as a server can handle the load of transcoding and serving video. (I have not tried this yet)

The tutorial below is aimed towards Sirius on the Voyager, but if you have XM, simply download/install uXM instead of uSirius. Both programs are made by the same author. If you don't have either, you can still listen to your favorite online/internet radio station by looking for the station's 'listen live' link, and adding it to Orb.

In short, to accomplish streaming just about any type of Internet Radio feed to the Voyager you need:

(1) an always-on PC, connected to the Internet via DSL/Cable/FIOS or any other similar high-speed connection
(2) install Orb on (1)
(3) install uSirius and/or /uXM on (1) depending on what you subscribe to (optional for streaming XM/Sirius)

The basics of how this works is that Orb transcodes any Internet Radio feed and serves it in a format that can be played with your Voyager. (or PDA, etc)

The tutorial below hopefully explains the procedure in enough detail so that anyone interested can accomplish the same as I have.

Tutorial link (same document, just 2 mirrors):
RapidShare: 1-Click Webhosting
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

Enjoy guys (and girls!)

Note 1: Your mycast.orb.com page on the Voyager will only show two streams by default (of any category). You can change this by going to 'Edit Content' and adjusting accordingly by changing the number 2 to any other higher number.

Important:
Note 2: To fix the 30 second issue both for m.youtube.com and this, call VZW CS and ask them for the temporary streaming video fix as described in this thread: HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource - Fix for m.youtube.com

Note 3: I didn't bother to fix the tutorial from its original form much if at all, except the last part, but safe to say, use it as a reference, and not as a bible. (links to download software might be outdated, etc) Download the latest versions of the software for Orb and uSirius/uXM.

Edit:
Second to last paragraph of tutorial should read:
'For any other Internet Radio source, putting the mms/rtsp/http link of its 'listen live' page will work, and no other program besides Orb is necessary.'
I forgot to finish writing that when I uploaded it, heh.

One last thing, if the speed at the bottom of the mycast.orb.com page reads 0kb/sec, you can set the speed manually to any of the values in the bottom if you're having trouble loading the streams. Oh, and don't even think of trying this without having VCAST VPak... you'll be very surprised when your bill comes in, if so. "

Default Error Message - 12-02-2007, 11:32 PM

I've installed uSirius and Orb. I'm able to connect from my Blackberry 8800 to my Orb account. I can see the Howard Stern link. However, when I try to connect to the stream I get the following error:

"The protocol specified is not supported by the handheld. Please try a different URL."

Any idea how to correct this?

On person posted that he could see the NFL Network football games on his 8130 via Sprint TV. So the capability is there. It probably depends on the compatability of the feed and speed of the network. I bet only EVDO from Vzn/Sprint is fast enough to support streaming audio/video. Some Tmob users has said they can get some internet radio by purchasing software.

I've lost track of the location for the BB Orb client download...didn't find it via Google or (strangely) the Orb site. Can you post the link for that?

Edit: Never mind, I found the answer on another thread. Looks like it's a browser interface. I had gotten the idea from some other posts I'd read that there was a BB client-side app, but I guess not. Thanks.

I was able to get Sirius to work using Orb and uSirius. It comes in great on my VZ 8130. No skips or delays at all!

Thanks for the instructions! You just saved me from having to buy a portable Sirius unit and additional subscription!

I tried logging on to uSirius, however I recieved two messages everytime:
Unable to login
Please check your setting

My settings were 100% correct. I double checked my user/pass on Sirius's website...

What should I do?

Default Help! - 12-20-2007, 12:20 AM

When I try to stream Sirius I get a message on my blackberry saying that it does not support this file type. Can you tell me what settings would allow me to fix this issue. Thanks to all who reply in advance.

Make sure that uSirius is running on your PC. When I have gotten this message previously it is because I don't have uSirius running. Once I go in and turn it on I get my stream.

Hopefully this is helpful.

Ok I got the stream to work. It must be a setting on the network though because I have a work Pearl and a personal Pearl but it will only work on my personal Pearl and I did not change any settings on Orb or uSirius. On the work Pearl it gives me the unsupported file error and on my personal one I can stream with no issues. I do have a little lag though just to let you know ONE. The choppiness is probably just the way it has to be though even though I too have EVDO, and 1x full bars.

OK, so I don't have Sirius or XM radio. I got signed onto ORB and it pulls up all the music folders and things from my computer and plays them fine from their website and plays it on my computer, but when I try to do it on my 8100 from TMO it goes through the speed test and stuff but the comes up with an error of "The protocol specified is not supported by the handheld. Please try a different URL" Any ideas? Do you guys have an URL from an online station that I can try? I tried getting one from my favorite local station, but they said theirs changes randomly, so you have to manually go to the website and sign on. Let me know what you think. Thanks guys.

Everything is installed, but the BB8800 gives the message "Unsupported media type: application/sdp"

The instructions only say to make a change in the stream settings for the voyager. People on this thread say they got it to work for their BB, but nobody mentions what changes were made to the stream settings.

Can someone please post this information?

I upgraded my verizon pearl 8130 with the new Alltel 4.3.0.81 software...and i got sirius to work again..i upgraded my pearl..then deleted the custom internet radio (sirius) stations and then put them back into orb. now i have it working, but we will see for how long...for those having problems with the verizon pearl, upgrade using the new alltel software and delete and then re add the sirius channels in orb. here is a link on how to upgade to the alltel software..

HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource - Alltel 4.3.0.81 is now available

That is a very cool post with the video to show that it works-thanks! I guess this system would only work on the new Pearl only, not the 8100?

I've been playing with Orb since last week, streaming TV (among other things) from my media center PC. TV is fun, but bummer that it won't stream full-screen on the Pearl. The small video window is a bit of a disappointment. I tried several of the stream types and they wouldn't work...seems we're limited to the small video window on the Pearl...

Hi,

I see that some Pearl 8310 users have had success streaming internet Radio and TV through Orb to this handset.

I have had no luck at all.

Everytime I try it, the phone restarts (Red Light, reboot).

It does not seem to hurt the phone at all. Everything works fine after the reboot. Just can't stream Internet Radio or TV.

So far, streaming Video off of files on my PC work great.

Oh, can't stream TV from my TV tuner card either. Same reboot problem.

Anyone else seen this before?

Sorry, but I don't think I've changed any of the default settings in Orb, and am streaming TV from my HP Media Center PC, as well as other media. You have to use 3gp streams for TV/Vid, other than that it "just works" for me on my Pearl. I'm in the middle of a cpu/disk intensive operation right now, but I'll check my settings in a bit and post back if I see anything...
