Actually, it's not that Verizon doesn't support it....Verizon has absolutely nothing to do with it. It is the 8130 that doesn't support it. In fact, the entire Pearl line (8100, 8120, 8130) doesn't support IM with either AOL or Windows Messenger. If you look at the page you linked to, it specifically mentions which model Blackberry's do support it.

Dawg is 100% right here. Verizon devices do not support AIM at this point.

This link works on my Sprint 8130. When I used my BB browser, it said my phone was not compatibable.

I looked at using the Verizon AIM but my understanding was that it required text messaging. When I look at the cost of unlimited text messages versus the one time payment for JiveTalk, there's no comparison.

I love JiveTalk. It combines all of my IM accounts for business and personal use. At 19.95 or 29.95 it's a steal. I highly recommend it over the multiple other programs for text messaging.

You mean $20 for the purchase...Jivetalk does not use a subscription. You buy it, you own it. Main differences are:

$19.95 - for use on one blackberry (may only use on one BB, not transferrable)
$29.95 - for use on any one blackberry at a time (may transfer from one BB to another, but only use on one at a time)

Oh, and there are often coupons floating around for Jivetalk...do a google on jivetalk coupon before purchasing and see if you can find one that works.

actually verizon has released aim for the 8130 pearl. if you go to the verizon homepage on your pearl when you open the browser, there is a link to install the mobile IM software. i must say though. i have jivetalk and by far it beats the verizon version hands down. however if you cant afford or dont want to pay for IM services then check out the new mobile IM from verizon

Too bad Verizon users once again get handed the truth that their carrier is not into technology and updated applications. ONly their money
Get the Sprint pearl and you'll have no more complaints about using AIM.

I GUESS THINK LINK MIGHT HELP YOU: Instant Messaging, designed exclusively for BlackBerry
go there from your BB.

I can't comment on the pearl, but I have the curve and was able to download the AIM app right after they came out with their Mobile IM version. However, I just went to see if there's an update and now it's unavailable. I think it is another case of Verizon trying to screw you over into using their app as it does use SMS and they get your money that way.

We have smart phones, why not allow us to send data over it like we do with the browser or BB messenger. Verizon really is missing the boat. They already have the best network. If they allow their users to use all the functions of their phone there'd be no reason to use anyone else.

I use WebMessenger and it seems to work fine...it uses AIM, ICQ, Y!, GTalk, etc, but it would work fine as just an AIM clone too. I'm pretty new, so perhaps this just hasn't had time to die on me yet, but as far as I know it's data-based and stable. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, though.

I have installed AOL intstant messenger on my Verizon 8130 and it works perfectly. I can't remember If I got the OTA download from AOL mobile site or blackberry site but it was definitely OTA and works great.
