Alright, so I got my new pearl about 3 weeks ago and its been working great, i'm pretty much in love with it... Although this past week on 3 seperate occasions my emails/sms messages just spontaneously deleted themselves. I've been doing some reading on this forum and it appears this is due to a fall in free memory.. There seems to be a crucial point when the free memory gets low enough that it deletes everything of that sort. I have not added any applications in addition to the ones the phone came with.

I did the hard reset described on this forum and its freed my memory back up to around 14mb. Now, i've seen some suggestions about how to combat this issue. I would prefer to not have to do a hard reset every few days however it does work. I have 2 main questions, first, how much will buying a additional memory card combat this problem? And second, how low should i let the free memory get before i do a "hard reset".

Hello and welcome.

The memory card has nothing to do with the on board memory, this is used for storing pics, videos, ringtones and music. And there really is no limit on the memory, some people are saying around 7-8 mb.

Alright sweet. I guess I will just have to keep an eye on it and make sure the memory doesn't fall too low.

I use a program I found on here to reset the BB without having to pull the battery. It's called soft reset I will try and find it.

It's been posted a bunch in the memory leak threads, but you should get rid of stuff on the phone that you don't need to increase the free memory. Stuff like the many unused languages and the sample video. You can do that from Options-Advanced Options-Applications. Then you 'll have about 28mb of free memory and you should never have to pull the battery again as long as you have a memory card for your pix.

New to blackberry so sorry for the newb question. I deleted the sample video and some of the languages, but there is a still an icon with a red X where the icons used to be. How do I get rid of this?
