Default Pearl Questions

Please Login to Remove!

I am considering a Pearl 8130 from Alltel. (due out Dec 14).

Here are a few questions that I would like help with, please.....

1. I will be carrying this in my pocket alot of the time, how easy is it to accidently answer a call, make a call etc with buttons accidently getting pushed?? (Can I easily lock and quickly unlock to answer a call? if there is a possibility of locking all keys and trackball)

2. How well does it vibrate? I have a friend with the curve and the vibration on that seems a bit subtle. She has missed calls because of it.

3. Can you lock certain applications...such as call logs, texts, messages, camera...etc.??

4. Does the GPS system work alone, or do I have to purchase the 'navigator thing' from Alltel?

5. Can I use MSN messenger with this? If so, how is the best way.

I really do like the Curve also, and thought about that one, but its a bit larger and no camera. hmmmm, but honestly, I do love the look of that one....so still a possibility!

Anyway, TIA!!!

Standby mode will lock all the keys -- you enter/exit standby mode with the Mute button on top of the device.
There is also a key lock mode -- you press and hold * to enter lock mode, then press *, then green phone button to unlock.
Either setting prevents you from making a call accidentally. You don't have to unlock to answer a call, just press the green phone button.

I would calssify the vibration as OK. I miss notifications some times when it's in my pocket.

I know there are several messengers that support MSN, but the majority of them have a service charge of some kind. Jivetalk, IM+, etc.

As for locking it I always use the Standby method - holding down the mute button on top for about 2 seconds sends it to standby and when you want to bring it outta standby just press the mute button again.

I agree with Scott about the vibrate question. If I am driving and its in my pocket, I won't notice it vibrating if I have my stereo up (I have SOME bass in my car but not alot) It just seems alot of outside conditions can overpower it. I would say if its in your hand or in your pocket and there arent really any big distractions around you you should be able to feel it.

As for the Curve, I am fairly certain it does have a camera, it was the next step up from the Pearl when they added the full QWERTY keyboard and an enhanced media player. also, I believe the camera is a 2.0 megapixel one as opposed to the 1.3 megapixel camera on the Pearl (dunno if the 8130 camera is the same as the 8100 or if they boosted that as well)

And I know virtually nothing about GPS so I can't help you there.

The Verizon 8130 has a 2 megapixel camera with video capture. I use Jivetalk for MSN IM and it works great.

My 8130 from Verizon came with a BB sleeve case that automatically puts it into standby mode while it is in it. I carry mine in my pocket and have had no problems with it accidently making any calls or starting any programs.
