Default only mono-output with standard headphones

last week i bought my new blackberry pearl 8100 here in germany. recently i discovered the following problem: if i use the original stereo headphones i only hear everything in mono. the right speaker seems to be "dead". is this a known problem? do you have any idea if the problem might depend on the headphones or the pearl?

thank you for replying!

I had the same problem with mine, only the headset worked in stereo for about a week before the right earbud went dead on me.

I found that if you keep your phone in your pocket with the headphones plugged in and they get jossled around alot, they tend to cut out sooner. Not sure if its a known issue or not. most retailers sell stereo headphones for mp3 phones now so you can always do what I do and just buy a new headset when the old gives out.

but mine didn't work from the first time i tried. i hope, it's a problem with the phones and not with the pearl. i just ordered an adaptor (2.5 mm -> 3.5mm) to see if i can use my ipod-phones with the blackberry.
thanks for your answer.

I doubt it's anything with the device. Those standard headphones aren't exactly top dollar. The iPod headphones with the adapter is a good idea, but if you do go out and buy one of the stereo headsets for mp3 phones, they have the microphone attached so that you can still use it to talk handsfree.
