Default Unlocked T-Mobile 8100 Won't Load Rogers Software..HELP!!!

Please Login to Remove!

So I bought my Pearl in September off of craigslist and have absolutely no complaints whatsoever aside from this increasingly nagging problem. The phone is originally from T-Mobile in the U.S., and I'm using it in Victoria, B.C. on the Rogers network. It was a business version so it has all the setup software to work with an Enterprise Server, but it is not setup to do so. I can make and receive phone calls and text messages no problem. The Desktop Manager is up to date, and my computer recognizes the Pearl when it is connected by USB. However, I downloaded the Rogers-specific device drivers for my Pearl and I can't get them to load on. Is there something I'm doing wrong? The phone is fully unlocked and I've been to a handful of Rogers retailers in the city and they can't figure it out, though they haven't tried that hard. Some have the same problem I have, others can't even get their computers to recognize the Pearl when it's plugged in. Is there some further unlocking that needs to take place in order for the drivers to be installed on my phone? I want to get a data plan and what not, but I can't until I load the rogers drivers. Someone please help!

First off it should work just fine without changing the software if the phone is unlocked just pop in the SIM card. You install the new OS through Desktop Manager, What error are you getting?

The phone connects fine when I start Desktop Manager. However, when I go into the Application loader, the text box displays light grey text that says something along the lines of the device and device drivers not being compatable and thus not allowing it to load applications or new drivers. I can still load music and what not, go figure? Also, where it's supposed to display the carrier name at the top of the phone it just reads "data connection refused". hope that helps give you a little more of an idea.

data connection refused means the carrier has not provisioned Data yet. What Rogers OS are you trying to install?

now I'm really pooched. Found out that there was a small .xml file that needed to be deleted to load the new os. Deleted it, starting working exactly like it said. Starting installing new Rogers OS, began with a backup of course. When it tried to reinitialize JVM, it seemed to time out and now all that displays on the screen is a circle with a little box inside and a line through it. Desktop manager won't detect the BB but the device manager shows it's connected through USB. How to I restore it now?? I can't use it period!!!

EDIT: The number 507 is also displayed below this icon.

You've likely caused more problems than you're fixing. 507 just means no OS on the device. Just run Application Loader again (it will detect it after you start the Application Loader) and it should load the OS. Post back if it doesn't work. The device will appear to hang for up to 20 minutes but it's normal. Let it go.

What, exactly, are you wishing to accomplish with this? As posted above, changing the OS is not going to do much for you as all the OS's are the same between carriers with higher version numbers having more bug fixes, etc.

You mentioned "Data Connection Refused." That means you don't have a Blackberry Data Plan on the account. You'll need to get a data plan from Rogers (quite expensive) and go from there.

As you're probably finding out, and has been said already, a BB won't connect to the internet without a specific BB plan

The software you use on the phone (Rogers, TMobile, AT&T, SunCom, whatever) makes no difference in the performance of the phone. Or the applications loaded to the phone. Most of the carrier specific applications are 'pushed' by the carrier or embedded (like the splash screens) in the phone's firmware.

Just get the most up to date software (OS) for your handset model and install it. Then call Rogers and get the bad news of what a data plan is going to cost you

If you choose to go with no data plan you'll have a nice phone with a calendar. But no ability to use the internet
