Is it normal for the Sprint Pearl battery to not even last an entire day before needing to recharge? I used the phone for about 20 minutes and did minimal email and had no battery by 5pm. Is there a setting that helps perserve battery? Thanks.

AZ, welcome to the BBForums.

While that is on the short side, it is not neccessarily abnormal.

Do you have any applications running in the background you are not aware of? On the BB, press ALT and ESCAPE (the back key, right of the trackball). Close any additonal apps you see there. You cannot close and will always have running the Homescreen, Address Book, BBMessenger, Phone, and the Browser. Make sure the browser is NOT running an active webpage.

I've had the exact same problem with my Sprint 8130.

However today I went all day using it & it's only at 80%. Give it 2 or 3 days & see how it works for you.

Default sprint 8130 battery life

I am a casual user with a new Sprint Pearl 8130 and the battery life is horrible. I can't even make it a whole day with a full charge starting in the morning. I am a new user so it is basically on out of the box settings. Any tips? I am thinking of returning this, switching to AT&T and going for the Blackjack II or the Curve.

The worst I've had with my Pearl is 1/3 remaining after a full day of use. Below is a synopsis of that day:

- On (automatically) at 4:15 AM
- Push email for Work (BES)
- Push email for four IMAP/POP accounts (BIS)
- Three calls totaling about 2.5 hours
- Internet browsing for about 20 minutes
- About 20 text messages incoming, and 10 outgoing
- Off at (manually) 10:00 PM

The only reason I can see that others may have low battery life is because their coverage areas aren't strong. (I'm in Los Angeles, and my coverage is very good--never less than two bars.)

The other reason may be due to applications left running in the background as JSanders mentioned in the 2nd post.

My 8130 currently has 50% after charging last night. I don't use the phone very much, but use a lot of email and a LOT of Blackberry Messenger and texting.

AND, remember in the first few days after purchase, you are normally using it more than a "normal" day will be. Also, these Li-Ion batteries are made to be topped off during the day--a little charge here, and a little charge there. They are NOT meant to be totally drained constantly day after day after day. You will have low battery life with that routine.

Default 8130 battery life

How do you turn off applications you don't need on the Blackberry 8130? Which applications are essential? Also do the number of message in the mail folders affect battery life?

Also check the signal strength. Sometimes I get really bad signals around my house and my phone will only last a day but if I have a good signal it will last at least 2 days.
