Default Media card trouble.

Please Login to Remove!

Hello to everyone. New to the forum and unfortunately my first post begins with a problem.

I recently bought a 4GB microSD card for my 8100. After reading in the FAQ that my old version of the OS did not support that size of a card, I upgraded to OS version 4.2.1.107. The device recognizes the card and apparently, the desktop manager does too. They both reflect the total and free space. But when I try transferring any sort of file to the media card using the desktop manager, it prompts me to enable mass storage. The card is not locked.

What do you make of this?

Thanks.

I forgot to mention that I already followed these instructions in the FAQ about enabling the card. As I said, the card is recognized by both the device and the desktop manager but, I am not able to transfer files. Other suggestions will be helpful.

I had a similar problem with my curve and a 2gb card. Do you have any 3rd party applications on your phone? If so try removing them and see if it works. That solved the issue with mine.

I don't know what that would be. Third party apps such as which?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8300/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Do you install anything onto your phone? Google maps or games or other applications?

You enabled mass storage, and you formatted the card in the pearl, so now your card is basically a thumb drive with 4 BB folders on it (music, ringtone, video, and photos). You use Windows Explorer to open it and to add music, etc. You don't use Desktop Mgr. for the card with mass storage enabled, it won't see it. Drag and drop from pc to the folder is all there is to it.

Yep. I tried that too. All to no avail.
I don't know what else I could try.

You mentioned Desktop Mgr in your initial post. That lead me to believe that you opened it, which you should not do.
You mentioned trying to transfer using DM which you cannot do if mass storage is enabled. I'd format the card in Windows, then format it in the phone. Then connect the Pearl (DM not running) and see if Windows finds it as a storage device like mine does. Just remember that when mass storage is on, Desktop Mgr is useless with the card.

Thank you BigNewt. The formatting of the card through Windows and on the device seemed to have done the trick. I appreciate your help.

Have you tried formatting it in the BB? Then see if it works.

Are you trying to see the card while the device is plugged into the computer? It's not possible to see the card from the device while it's plugged in in mass storage mode. Unplug it and see if it shows up.
