Default OS: 8130 4.3.0.137 / 4.3.0.71 (Sprint) - 12-04-2007, 02:13 PM

The 4.3 device original OS is out for Sprint Spectrum Pearls, or any 8130 CDMA BlackBerry.

This is not for a 8100 Pearl.

* Applications: 4.3.0.71
* Software Platform: 3.1.0.37
* File name: 8130uEFS_PBr4.3.0_rel137_PL3.1.0.37_A4.3.0.71_Spri nt.exe
* File size: 95.6MB

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...BB765225CE8C0E

Select Blackberry 8130 from the dropdown and click Next. Then click the "Download" link that appears at the bottom of the page.

Instructions for installing on any CDMA 8130 from any carrier:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. It's 4.2 SP2, or Version 4.3, and can be downloaded Click Here. or from the Verizon site linked above.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."

If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Previous OS thread is located here

FYI...I used Desktop Manager 4.2 SP1 to update to the Telus OS release, so that seems to work as well as DM 4.2 SP2 or DM 4.3.

No release notes, haven't seen anything posted by Sprint owners that indicates anything different (but I don't think anyone's asked) so no way to tell at this point.

I think we'd like to assume that it includes fixes/updates to improve the previous versions, and might have an additional feature or tweak, but I wouldn't expect much in that area.

Yup...it's the release of the OS that you need if you want to use the App loader from Desktop Manager w/your Pearl. You can download and install it to your hard drive.

Now...tell us about any secret features in .71 that we don't have yet!

No one knows...don't have release notes, and would need a side-by-side compare to a previous release by someone w/both to know what's different...mostly we'll find out by folks w/an earlier OS trying it and seeing what's different.

I'm kind of confused??? My Sprint Pearl came with that version on it. Or is this for people older BB's to update to the new OS that came with the pearl??

I decided to go ahead and load this OS version on my 8130, if I notice any major differences I'll report back.

It's for two purposes:

1. Sprint customers load to their PCs if they want to use the App Loader in BB Desktop Manager to manage apps (install/uninstall) on their Pearl.

2. Other CDMA 8130 (VZW, Telus) owners to load to upgrade the OS on their Pearls.

Bell released their 4.3.0.66 OS as well.

If you want that one, you can get it here...

when you hold the mute button to put the phone in standby mode, does it automatically enter standby, or does it prompt to hit ok?
Verizon's OS prompts to enter, TelUS auto enters (which I'm using and prefer).

It automatically goes into standby mode.

Did you do any of these steps to reset your email?

My Email Stopped Arriving - BlackBerryFAQ

Did you also check your settings in Mobile Yahoo, uninstall/reinstall it, etc?

Before I upgraded my OS to version 4.3.0.71 (Sprint) I was running version 4.3.0.65 (Telus), so far I haven't noticed any major differences between the two.

It's exactly the same...you should load it to your PC so you can access your phone via the App Loader, but it is the same OS that is on your phone, and all the Sprint 8130s at this point.

Not w/the Pearl, but I feel stronger, happier, and sexier after the upgrade. ;)

I had two failed attempts at updating until I realized I had USB Mass Storage mode active...the process would just hang. Turning it off solved the problem, so I would suggest others turn it off as well during OS updates.

Other than that, smooth update. I will report if I notice any substantial changes.

I have my set to "Prompt" and it worked fine. I thought I had it set to Auto when I did the Telus, and that also worked.

I have over 17MB free memory, more than I've had before. Anyone else seeing that? Wonder if memory is managed better (or the OS itself is a bit smaller?) with this release...

Not that this really belongs here, but are you guys simply saying you have 15MB free when you see 15,000,000 Bytes?

If so, then that is an incorrect reading. In reality, 15,000,000 Bytes would actually convert to a little over 14MB. Not a huge difference, but when were counting every single MB, it's more accurate. The unit for storage is based upon 1024, not 1000.

You can use the conversion calculator here to test: Bit Calculator - Convert between bits/bytes/kilobits/kilobytes/megabits/megabytes/gigabits/gigabytes.

Ya I know, when you delete the pics and ringtones and themes that come with the BB it frees up a lot of space.
