I just picked up a 8130 (VZW) and am also new to the BB community. I love the phone, but have a problem drilling down into contacts and am wondering if anyone else has this problem.

So when in contacts or just at the home screen. If I hit the 9 key (for J and K) and if happens to show "Find: K", it'll still show me contacts that start with J and not K. I have to scroll all the way down to the K's. This is really making it hard to quickly dial contacts when you have a large # of them.

Assuming I can get this issue fixed, is there anyway to set the contact lookup to use multitap, but everything else to use SureType? Thanks for the help. Great site with a lot of great info.

When you hit "j/k" it will list all the j's and k's. That's normal. Simply hit the next letter of the name you are looking for. For example for Fred Johnson you'd hit "j/k" which will give you everything beginning with j or k. Then hit "o/p" and you'll get everything that starts with "jo" or "jp" or "kj" or "kp." Since you likely don't have anything with the other combinations you will have narrowed down to the proper names.

Just spell out the first few letters of the first or last name and you'll get what you want. It's a great system.

Agreed...it is something that is better than anything I've used before on my previous "normal" cell phones. Very cool.

Ok that makes a lot of sense now. Sorry the learning curve is pretty steep for me I guess.

You can also from the home screen just start typing the letters for the contacts name, like you would in the contact screen, and it brings up the contacts with those possible combinations so you can just scroll to the name you want then press send. I find it saves me a step of actually going into the address book.
