Default Camera Freeze

Please Login to Remove!

About two months ago, all of a sudden, my camera stopped working. When I would either select the icon or push the button on the side, the camera application would open up but it is completely frozen. No buttons work and I can't even answer an incoming call. I have to take the battery out to reboot for the phone to start working again. Every other function on the phone works fine. I did a search on this forum and saw someone else had a similar problem but his phone would reboot on its own after about 5 seconds of being frozen. The suggestion was to install newer software but somehow the problem resolved itself on his phone with no intervention. I have updated the software twice since this problem first occurred. I can't remember what version I had when it first started but I updated to 4.2.1.74. I'm on T-Mobile so I thought that might do the trick but no such luck. I have since updated to 4.2.1.108 and still have the exact same problem. I see a new version of the software recently was released so I'll probably try that but I'm guessing it won't solve anything. Short of returning the phone, anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Would be nice to be able to start using my camera again.

Well updating the OS would be my first course of action. Have you checked your free memory? Might this be occuring when it's low? Are you storing your pics on a media card? There might be some setting to check with that as the camera will try to access when it's activated. Otherwise, it might be hardware but I am leaning toward memory.

Menu>options>status (How much do you have?)

I do have a 2GB memory card. The card has 175.1MB of available space and the phone itself has 64MB of available space (I assume 64,356,352KB is equivalent to 64MB). I would think 175MB of space on the media card should be more than enough but I will go ahead and take some photos and music off to see if that helps. Any other thoughts?

Onoly concerned with the phone. Yes you have 64mb on the device. But what is your free file memory? This is what caused freezes, etc.

Sorry. That wasn't very bright. I have 18.6MB of free memory. Is that not enough for the phone to operate properly.

Your memory is fine. I would try changing it so that it saves on the device as a test. If it works fine move it back to storing on the media card and if it starts freezing again you may want to backup the memory card and reformat it.

Otherwise, I would suggest talking to your carrier about replacement.

Sorry, maybe other members will have other suggestions or even solutions!

Best of luck,

E-

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8100 Pearl: BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

My wifes pearl 8100 is doing the samething, all she sees is a grey screen when she opens the camera app and after a few seconds it reboots, I hope someone has a solution for the problem.
