I was thinking about trying out the 8130 for Verizon, i currently have the 8830. My question is, I have a family plan with two lines, my line is not available for a upgrade and would require me to pay $419.99 full retail, however my wife's line is eligible for upgrade and the 8130 would cost $99 after discounts. Can I upgrade her line for the $99 price and then when the phone is delivered just activate the 8130 on my line? Would Verizon allow this, or would they charge me the price of the discounts?

I can't speak for your carrier but I see no reason why. I know I did this on AT&T. They just want the renewed contract and don't care who uses what phone. I'm saying go for it and don't look back!

I went from a 8100 to a 8130 I like the network as it works better in my area and I find the 8130 to be a nice update. I may keep the t-mobile in case their coverage gets better and check out the pearl 2 when that comes out.

I did this very thing. My wife's line on our family share plan was eligible for the upgrade, I used that to get the 8130 at the discounted price and had VZ switch it to my line (primary line which wasn't eligible for an upgrade). What's even better is that I found out after the fact that I get a 20% discount on the data plan through my employer...that brings the additional cost of the data plan to only $24/month. I love it!

Yup all you have to do is have them swap the esn from one phone to the other!

With ATT all you have to do is move sim card from one device to another! With VZW customer actually has to call in or go to a store to switch one phone to another line and back

I did the same thing with Verizon in the past with no problems.

I did this also, because it's an upgrade you have to activate it on the original line then call back and switch it to your line they don't care, they have told me in the store before to do this.

You can switch ESN's online in my account section of VZW. Otherwise, they will sometimes try to charge you $20 to do that for you in the store. But I haven't had much luck getting it to work online so then I end up calling and they do it for free cause I "tried" to do it online and it didn't work.

I'm sure if you're buying it in a store they'd be willing to do a lot more stuff for you just to get the sale.

You can't do it online if you have two active phones, switching esn, they have to do it through customer service, just play dumb and tell them you tried online and it won't work they won't charge you.

Actually, with Verizon, you can activate and swap ESNs online, so no need to goto a store or call customer service. I just wasn't sure if Verizon would care enough to track what line the 8130 was activated on.

From what I understand, the online ESN switcher cannot handle PDA phones, since they require the data feature. Normally Verizon charges a fee for you to switch phones unless you do it yourself online, but you can just call them and tell them that the online ESN switcher won't allow you to switch the phones and they will waive the fee.

I've never tried the online ESN switcher before as Verizon has me listed as a "VIP" subscriber, so they don't charge me for switching out phones.
