Default Which Pearl to get?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello! I'm sure y'all are sick to death by now of newbs asking the same tired old questions, so I apologize in advance.

Basically, I'm ditching my T-Mobile prepaid and am looking to sign up for a regular plan. After deciding the Sidekicks didn't offer enough bang for the buck, I've begun eyeing Blackberries. Since I don't need tons of power, I'm leaning towards the Pearl. Here's where my dillemma comes:

I'm not sure whether to go ahead and get a Pearl 8100, or to wait and get the 8120. I see pluses to both:

8100:
-Plenty of existing applications
-Cheaper
-Colourable Trackball (I'm big into customization)

8120:
-Newer
-Better camera/video capture functionality

That's just off the top of my head. Since I don't know too much about Blackberries, I wanted to get the insights of those who have experience with the phones. I mean, I'd really like to have a coloured trackball (one that I can change depending on my mood), but then again, being able to take video would also come in handy as well. So I'm rather torn.

What are your thoughts? Thanks for any input!

The newer ones have some refinements on the exterior that the old ones don't. It all comes down to your requirements. If the original pearl meets them then save some money. Otherwise, go with the new and don't look back!

The 8120 will also come with WiFi. And some say that the predictive text in SureType is more accurate in the newer version of the Pearl.

Ah, true, I forgot it had Wi-Fi. That helps for web browsing, right? Or is that just for T-mobile's Hotspot at Home?

This is a hard decision. Especially after trying the 8800's keyboard. Now I love full QWERTY (but don't like the idea of carrying around such a big phone!) Bah. Indecisiveness sucks.

As long as ya get a red pearl. Everyone knows BB made special upgrades to the red units which enables them to hold at least 3 bars in 99% of North America.

I used to have the blackberry 8100 from tmobile and i didn't like the service i got with tmobile. I am thinking about getting the 8130. Am I to understand the custom apps that I bought and used on the 8100(LED customizer, keyboard lockout, media player, etc) would not work on the 8130?

The only apps that won't transfer are ones that rely on the multi-color LED for the trackball. The 8130, 8120, and 8110 Pearl's don't have the additional color trackball LEDs.

the 8100 struggles with streaming music through via bluetooth despite updates.

atleast through my experiences. it skips in and out with both the BT8010 and the Jaybird 200i
