Default New to BlackBerry...Just bought a Pearl

Please Login to Remove!

Hello, I am new to the blackberry world and just purchased a Pearl from Verizon last night. I've had many Windows mobile devices, and finally am completely done with them. They are just simply not reliable enough for me. I had an iPhone on AT&T, but AT&T coverage around my area is HORRIBLE, so I went back to Verizon. So the sales persons at the Verizon store sold me on a Pearl. So far (the 12 hours i've had it) I LOVE IT!! Im trying to get use to the small screen and keyboard, other than that, its very nice and quick.

No I am questioning my decision, so I need some help.
I bought the Pearl, what is the difference between the Pearl and 8830? (besides the Pearl has a camera and the 8830 has a full QWERTY keyboard)?
Would you recommend the Pearl or 8830?

Thanks!!

What is making you question your decision on the Pearl? What don't you like about it?

I have both -- the 8830 is for work and the 8130 is my personal device. I think it depends on what you want to use it for. For work, email and calendar are most important for me and it's hard to beat BES and the 8830 keyboard for typing (although the backlight leaves a little to be desired).

For my personal use I want Web browsing, email (BIS) and a good phone -- all in a small package so I don't feel like I have a brick in my pocket. The Pearl is pretty good at all of those. I can type better using SureType on the Pearl than I could using a full QWERTY keyboard on my Motorola Q -- the Q really could not keep up with typing at a decent pace. Also, the Pearl's keys are a better shape for me to hit only one at a time. I use a combination of the BB browser and Opera Mini.

Again, it depends on what you're looking for. Another nice thing about BlackBerry and Verizon Wireless is you can get "unlimited" data for $30 per month. Windows Mobile and Palm devices are $45 per month.

i was deciding between the 8830 and the 8130. i decided to go with the 8130 and am very happy. My husband got the 8830 and ended up exchanging it the next day and got the 8130 as well. I know that the 8830 does not have memory card slot, camera. his biggest problem was that he couldnt watch the nfl network on it. Im not sure if it has navigation b ut i can say that on the 8130 it does and i love it. It's a great device. The only way ill switch is if Sprint ever gets the Curve!

I have the Pearl and after reading about it vs the 8830 i am keeping the pearl. I text/email a lot for my personal use and work, but I think I can get use to the shurtype pretty quick.

Yes, i finally switched to the "dark side" as my buddies call it, from the windows devices. Yes, $30 for BB vs $45 for windows is awesome!!

Is there a way to get a folder with JUST text (sms) messages instead a "messages" folder with EVERY message?

What are some good free apps/games and where do you get them from?
Thanks!!

When in your messaging app, press the menu (BB) button. Select Options and scroll down. Towards the bottom there should be an option called "SMS and Email Inboxes" With that setting you can choose to have them separate or combined.

Here's a good place to start browsing the available software. UPDATED! Blackberry Killer Software & Utilities Thread Not all of it will work on the 8130 but a majority probably will.

When I first got my Pearl, the SureType drove me nuts. I switched over to MultiTap and stopped using SureType. When I upgraded my OS, it changed it back to default to SureType rather than MultiTap. I left it on and after about maybe 10-15 minutes of using SureType on emails and text messages, I'm hooked. With the predictive text, I can type faster than on a true QWERTY handset. Of course there are still words that will confuse the SureType, but the more I am using it, the better it is getting.

The 8830 has a SD card slot, it's just not external, you have to take off the battery cover to insert the SD
