I went to Handango – The Official Site: Downloads For Your Mobile Device on my Pearl to download BB alerts.

When it go to the site it went to a page with a download for a Handango tool to facilitate downloads, etc. I always decline these things but there was no other option on the page, and the site has been recommended here, so I accepted it.

The download began (I did not check the box to set permissions, feeling that was at least a little conservative) and then my pearl rebooted...w/out any input from me. That was strange, but I figured a somewhat badly behaved app...

Well, now it's in an endless reboot...

The status light goes red, then it goes out and the screen lights up and the hourglass appears for 10 seconds or so, then the status light goes red again and it continues and continues.

I've done a battery pull - no joy.

Yea, I recommended it to you. BBAlerts has worked well for me over several devices, sorry you had problems.

Handango is reputable, I am not sure why you had this problem other than not allowing that permission setting.

Hmmm...the reload completed, but the restart is taking a looooooooong time.

Is it normal for it to take, life five minutes to restart after the reload?

I'm not sure how up-to-date Handango's apps are. 4.3 OS is pretty new and most developers haven't caught up yet. It may be an app that doesn't play well with 4.3.

Do I need to reset up everything (email accounts, etc.) or can I resend service books from the VZW BIS site?

You can set Desktop Manager to do an automatic backup every so many days. You can specify how often. Then it will backup or prompt you to backup after that many days the next time you plug in.

I just did the Pearl backup, and am doing my regular laptop backup when I go to bed...

Phone is back up, things reloaded (for the most part) and BT devices paired.

What an adventure...never will I install anything anything w/out allowing the permissions to be set!

Damn... wish I had seen this thread 15 minutes ago. Now it's happening to me! Guess I'll have to do the wipe.

Really? Interesting...did you select the option to allow setting permissions as a part of the download/install? I skipped that, was wondering if that was the reason why it crashed my Pearl.

I know one thing...no more exceptions to allow web sites to put any download managers on any of my hardware...

Anyone experience Handango icon appearing out of no where? I never downloaded it, but it just showed up earlier tonight. And I can't find it under Options>AdvOpt>App. Any ideas on how to remove this from my phone? Thanks

Yes, just delete it from your service book list.

I tried installing Handango several times because I wanted The Weather channel program, since BBWeather seems formated for larger screens.

Regardless of how I set Handango permission settings, the BB fried each time.

Now I'm using weather bug. Very frustrating. Hopefully this will get taken care of soon.
