Default Opera 4 - How to work on WIFI(8120)

Please Login to Remove!

I cannot make Opera 4 access the internet via WIFI.
Even on the installation process of Opera 4, if the TCP settings on Bberry are not present it won't install. Is there a way to oblige opera using the WIFI connection instead of the default protocol?

I'm stucked in the same situation.. I would like to use Opera or GMail via WiFi.. but my WiFi connection always shows the yellow indicator... and it seems there's no way to let them use WiFi connection...
Has someone succeed into using BB 8120 as a "simple" smartphone without any BB dataplan?
Please help!!!

Opera support site states that navigation with Opera Mini through WiFi on Blackberry 8830 isn't possibile due to some changes made by RIM in the JVM.. so they are working on a future update to solve this... I don't know if this apply to 8120 too...
By the way on 8120 in Option->Advanced->Application then choose Opera Mini and then Modify authorization.. under Connection WiFi is enabled...
So... where is the problem???

wifi might be shown under the advanced options bit, but if I turn off my mobile network via manage connections leaving it on wifi only, that's with the wifi fully enabled, green icon and all - operamini will not connect to any website.

You get this error:
Failed to connect to the internet
100
java.io.IOException: Open tunnel - max timeout

the blackberry browser has no problem connecting with just wifi enabled.

Have you got Operamini working with wifi?

No I haven't... Opera through WiFi doesn't connect to any site.. and I get error message "Can connect to the internet"...
Which version of Opera Mini do you use? I've installed 8100 version...
The same problem with Gmail...

Opera is aware of the problem apparently there's nothing to be done at the moment from their end. it is entirely in RIM's hands to make it work now?!!
(from a telephonic conversation with an Opera IT tech.)

I was using OperaMini 4, but I uninstalled it because not only did it not work with wifi, but the suggested APN settings for o2 (mobileweb I think) incurred data charges.

If you change to the wap.o2.co.uk then that's included in your BB unlimited data plan but the wap APN settings are woefully slow.. so I gave up entirely with Opera.

cheers for the update Laurentio, hopefully RIM will allow wifi to work with Opera. With all the wifi Blackberries now appearing you'd have thought they might.. but then again, Opera browser is a competitor to the Blackberry one. Maybe they should just seriously improve the BB browser instead :D

Update!
Hi guys.. finally at Opera have solved wifi issue...
With 4.1 release you need to connect only the first time with data plan... and then go to "Settings" and check Wi-Fi checkbox...
That's all...
Hope this help!

PS: nothing to do with Gmail, instead!

Shouldn't the OLD version be changed in Settings to either HTTP or Proxy? I had to do this with Opera 4.0/4.1 on my SE phone for it to use the standard WAP apn not the internet APN. Just curious if this is the same for the BB 8120. Also has anyone checked application permissions on their BB for Opera Mini making sure its allowed to ALL connections not just CUSTOM?!?!

I don't know if it's like the SE edition... by the way permissions are set to Custom..

@Falconb,

Custom settings for Internet access for Opera Mini that might be the key to resolving it - unless more is helpful in the WIFI sections of this site threads.
