Mike, if you are getting the flashing red light, it sounds like you need to follow the instructions here:

You can upgrade if you like. If you are not having any issues there is no need to upgrade unless you want to. The OS will work fine on any 8100 from any carrier.

I installed the OS like I always do, but when I launch the desktop manager, I'm not prompted to upgrade...tried repairing the install, and restarting the computer...

Any ideas?

My phone's been giving me MAJOR headaches lately (disappearing sms/mms, emails, random freezes, long hourglass times) so I really want to update!

Make sure you installed the correct OS for your device.

Make sure you delete the vendor.xml file after installation. If you deleted it THEN installed the OS make sure you delete it again. It gets installed every time you install the OS.

The disappearing emails, and hourglassing is a memory issue. Check my link for "Optimize your BB's Memory."

If I upgrade to this OS and wanted to revert to my previous version how easy is it and how is it done?

TIA.

It's easy if you have a copy of the old OS on your PC. Simply uninstall the newer OS and run application loader and it will downgrade you. You can also wipe with JL_Cmder first before loading the old OS. You'll need to download the old OS just as you downloaded the new OS, though.

Unhappy Diagnose/Spyware ? - 02-19-2008, 08:38 AM

Hello,
is there in 4.3.1.14 (for BB 8100) some spyware?
I don't understand why I've got SMS notice about internet data transfer even if I don't use it now. Here is log info from my BB:

Name: net.rim.tunnel
Severity: Always Logged
GUID: 3b91e1630f0745bc
Time: Feb 19, 2008 12: 49:18
Clos-internet

What does it mean?

This has not been released for the 8100. And when it is released I believe it will be a 4.5.x OS (4.3 was renamed).

I installed this OS and unlocked the themes. After using it for the past couple of weeks, I have some subjective impressions.

I've had one instance of the unit freezing, but it doesn't seem to be any worse than the previous software.

It seems that the battery life is somewhat reduced, but it's hard to be sure.

The multi-tap problem seems to be gone but the phone is still completely braindead when it comes to entering numbers like 1-800-GOFEDEX. Why can't they figure this out?

Other than that, I haven't encountered any problems. The phone seems to work fine.

JL_Cmder is a tool to wipe the OS off your BB but also has some other features included such as screenshots, etc.

If you are simply going to upgrade, you don't need JL_Cmder.

Does the upgrade come with things to fix errors you get when playing certain video?
