Default Sprint 8130 / BBM 'Input Error' messages?

Please Login to Remove!

I have a Sprint 8130 and am having a very odd problem.....

I have a handful of active Blackberry Messenger conversations (one converstation has multiple participants) that are active 24x7. Lately (and with increasing frequency), I will be typing a BBM message and the device will freeze up and then give a pop up error of "Input error - system will be restarted". This happens about once a day.

Most of the time the device just freezes for a few seconds and BBM will start working again. Today it froze up and then spontaneously rebooted

I have the following 3rd party apps installed (none of which are active in the background - I always make sure I 'Exit' or 'Close' them):

BBWeather
Google Maps
Sprint TV
TeleNav
Gmail
Beyond411
Pipes
JiveTalk

I added extra space by manually removing the Voice Activated Dialing application (by renaming the .cod files), the sample video, Help, Brickbreaker, and unused languages (I only speak English and Blonde).

I am currently reloading the 4.3 OS to see if that helps, but am curious if anyone else using one of these devices is experiencing the same thing.

So it's been 2 days since reloading the OS and I haven't had any problems (of course, I just jinxed myself!).

Well see if my luck continues......

//rant ON

OMG! I am going to take a freaking SLEDGE HAMMER to my 8130! Since my last post I have reloaded the Sprint OS due to the BBM issues, and then loaded the Alltel OS.

I am currently having a very active conversation with ONE person in BBM (lots of typing fast back and forth) and I have had to reboot it THREE times in the last hour due to the conversation disappearing, words getting jumbled together (looks like the sentences are getting dropped on top of each other), and just generally acting weird.

I have an RMA replacement sitting on my desk at work and will be swapping it on Monday. I sure hope it's the device and not the OS.....

I had the same error today: I'm typing on BBM, and I get an input error message saying it will reset, but hasn't reset. It freezes briefly, and then everything is fine. But I suspect it may reset sometimes based on above, at some point. Is this an OS issue, or hardware? Since OS reinstall didn't help juwaack68, any other thoughts?

I believe it's an OS error since I've had 3 different 8130's and they all have the same issue.

I've reported the issue to both Sprint (my carrier) and RIM. Had a ticket open with RIM but let them close it (didn't call them back) since they kept wanting me to wipe it (as in, remove the OS and reinstall it) and selectively restore different things.

I sent them numerous log files, screen shots, etc. It's happened with THREE devices. It's not a hardware issue, they need to fix the OS.

Wirelessly posted

Same error here multiple times daily though it doesn't seem to matter in which app I'm entering text. Usually it just says it's going to restart the input engine and I carry on. Annoying for sure but at least it stays on...only had a few random reboots since I've had the phone...

Although this issue is rather annoying, I am glad to see I am not the only one having this problem, I am using a Verizon 8130 updated with their latest OS. I hope they fix this with the next OS release as I use BBM alot to talk with my wife.

How do you open a ticket with RIM? That may need to be done more often!

My company has T-Support directly with RIM.

So does anyone else in your company experience the input error issue that makes it worth pursuing with RIM?

Nobody else in my office uses the 8130, and nobody else uses BBM as much as I do.

You may be using up your memory if these are long time conversation check ... options/status/filefree 6 digits or less is trouble

Thanks, rick, but that's not it. I typically have 17+M free memory, and am not losing call logs, text messages, or emails.

I am having these same issues. Input system restarting, lost all of my call history and all SMS/MMS that we sitting there except saved. Also erased the other inbox (I keep SMS/MMS and mail separate) I have only had the call logs and messages delete once, but the input system restart is maddening. I don't have too many things on there. Usually run about 7MB free memory.

I did notice that it seemed to happen more when I had a bunch of picture MMS I had both sent and received. I cleaned up everything and it seemed better, but is still happening.

I've seen posted here that you need twice that amount of free memory. I generally have 16-17 mb free. I still get the problem, but only reset once, the other times it just freezes temporarily. If you had more memory, perhaps it wouldn't happen? I remain baffled that RIM allowed a unit to be sold where memory is such an issue....why couldn't they just add another 50 mb or so and save lots of aggravation.
