Default trackball stops scrolling

Please Login to Remove!

I've noticed my trackball will actually stop rolling (actually its done it twice but very annoying). While scrolling it just stopped rolling in one direction the first time it was up and today it was down. Wonder if its worth exchanging. I took it to Bell and the rep actually noticed that my screen was a little off alignment as well. He told me he could exchange it but that RIM would send me a refurbished unit??? I'm thinking for the money I paid why should I get a refurb!! any opinions on whether or not I should exchange it? the screen being a little off isn't a huge disappointment other than it being a little eye sore when closely examined but the thing that bothers me is the trackball.

press down and firmly roll the ball to the direction it stops rolling. this is a fix, but not really anything permanent.

so do you think its worth exchanging? I mean I dont want to get a reburb that turns out to have more problems....on the other hand I dont like having it stop scrolling either. The rep assured me the refurbs have never been used just didnt pass the first QA inspection.

They will get debris in them and you will have do to as stated in the previous post. It will also become dull in time but the good news is you can buy new trackballs for less that $10 bucks! Takes under a minute to swap it!

refurbs can be returns as well, that are sent to be cleared by RIM and set back to manufacturer specs

Yeah, I can see how they could get debris and stuff but my unit is fairly new actually less than a month.

a vote on whether I should replace or not?

If the device is functioning well for you I would recommend sticking with it. You never know what the next device might bring.... all the devices will have issues with the trackball getting dirty and sticking. If you keep it in your pocket or purse it will happen more often due to lint and other things.
As a side note...if you lock the keypad before depressing and rolling the trackball you can do it without accidentally executing something that you don't want.

I do although I keep it in the holster. I'm sure there has been a few times where I've popped it into my pocket without the holster.

even in a holster it can easily get lint and dust under the trackball

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll stick with this one. I'll pay more attention to the protecting it from dust. I just read a thread on how to remove the trackball for cleaning so I'll do that once in a while as well.

Thanks again.

Default Trackball swap

I probably should have added this to my list in my other thread....

Is it possible to swap the trackball from a 8130 pearl with a trackball from say a Curve or the 8100? the 8130 pearl trackball in my opinion sucks its not as smooth as the curve or even the 8100 or 8830
