I just got my second blackberry pearl today, I had to send the first one back because it would not charge at all. I got my second one today, put a battery in it and it was dead, I put it on charge for an hour and a half, the battery picture came on, and the top light was fading in and out.. Status reported it at 0% still, so I figured bad battery, I put another battery in, charged it for an hour and a half.. same thing. Am I missing something, any ideas?

Bad charger, bad outlet?

Just thought of that.. I changed the charger to another one I had for a razr.. The outlet is fine, I use it for my other phones.. What I don't get is that when you take the battery out, put it back in the phone wont come on at all, plug the charger in, it comes on, but the LED fads in and out, you can turn the phone on and the LED starts slowly flashing green/amber and the lightning bolt appears by the battery icon, it does this with both batteries.. How long does it take to charge one completely dead? The guy I bought it from told me to let it charge overnight.. But after 3 hours, you think i'd see something on the status instead of 0%..

One question, I wouldn't think it would make a difference, but do I need a sim card in it to charge it? I don't have one in it right now, since radio is disabled I have it in my other phone until this one charges.. Would that matter?

What you are describing sounds like a phone that is turned off, and charging. The led will flash like that. However, after a while you should be able to power the device on by pressing the red phone button.

Yeah, it only fades when it's off and the big battery picture is on the screen, when I press power it goes from fading to flashing like it should..


I saw ONE other post on another site where someone said it had to have a sim card to charge.. can anyone confirm this? I don't want to send this one back too.. it took me over a month to get the person to send a new one.. :/

ok, I appreciate the help.. I dont know how, or why but I did put a cingular sim in it, and turned it on.. everything worked, both batteries now show 100%, took the sim out and it still worked.. I don't know what happened, or why.. but I just hope this isn't something that's going to happen again in a few days.

maybe you should switch to a more reliable system called CDMA
