Are you using a Bluetooth headset at all? What about the wired headset that came with the Pearl?
Since you're having the same issue with two different devices it's time to look at what those two devices had in common and go from there. I doubt if this is a phone issue.
I wasn't using a bluetooth headset or the wired headset. The static was coming through when just using the phone itself.
I got both phones at the same store (a few weeks apart). Could it be that the particular store got a bad batch?
