Default Should be a simple question

I have what should be a very simple question that I can't find an answer to in any of the FAQs and online help on the web or on the phone.

Due to the semi-QUERTY layout of the keys, dialing phone numbers that have characters associated with them is problematic. For example, I wanted to call 1-800-FLOWERS to order my wife some flowers. On a normal phone, F-L-O-W-E-R-S would be 3-5-6-9-3-7-7, but on the Pearl, using the keys on the phone, it would be 4-?-?-?-1-1-?. It is too difficult to guess at the letters of a normal phone while you're trying to spell these out.

How do you know how to dial these numbers?
