Question VZW pearl: mass storage - keeps powering phone off

Please Login to Remove!

I stuck in a 4 GB MicroSD card. it asks me if i want to go into Mass Storage mode. I select YES. then it powers down for about 1-2mins, turns back on. and it asks the same question. anytime i tell it YES on mass storage mode, it will just turn off. Is this a known issue?

Not one I have seen.

Try telling it NO to Mass Storage and see what happens. Make sure the card is recognized by the device and come back later and enable Mass Storage.

I failed to mention this is when i have the card + data cable plugged in. when it detects the cable, it prompts me to Mass storage mode. phone turns off when i select yes.

When i select NO, nothing happens. i test the card take photos, it works, they save to the card.

Options > About... Near the top there should be a v4dotSomething. It might not matter tho if you are able to use the card. Some OS versions dont support larger SD cards.

domerdel, on the BB, do you have Mass Storage Mode enabled?

Options > Media Card > Enable Mass Storage, etc., = yes

Mass Storage Support Mode is ON
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected: PROMPT (this only comes up when i'm connect the data USB cable). I'm afraid to change it from PROMPT to YES because of the experience I've had with it powering down.

I called Verizon Tech Support. They got in touch with blackberry while i was on hold... all they could do was document it for now, and then 1 of 2 things happens (if and when there's a fix).

1. software update link from bb site
2. flash update (take in store).

What if you try formatting your card, a fresh format?
I hate going to the stores, like going to the doctor. If I can take an aspirin myself, keep me away from there.

This is in fact a known issue - particularly on OS X. So the more important question is whether or not you're on a Mac.

Possible fix is to reformat the card using your Windows computer (not directly from the BB) to FAT32.

Here's some more info.
