| 8130 + Verizon - Data Plan, possible? Please Login to Remove! Hi,
My fiance is envious of my 8100 (t-mobile) and wants to get an 8130 through Verizon. However, she is on a family plan and the administrator of the account doesn't want to get a data plan because, supposedly, everyone on the family plan has to have the data plan too. Plus, Verison's plans are $$$$$.
Secondly, I believe the administrator of the plan was told by a store rep that you MUST get a BlackBerry plan to use the phone, "it is not possible to have just a simple phone plan for the BlackBerry".
Will someone please help me either verify or dispel these myths?
Thanks millions!

| You must have a data plan to use a BB w/Verizon. They don't allow a BB w/out a data plan.
Only the person using the BB needs the data plan, no one else is affected. You can simply add the $29.95 data plan to the existing phone plan. | | Offline

As far as all the lines needing to have the data feature. That is completely false. As Dawg mentioned it can and has been done, it just takes someone who knows what they are doing.

If you use BIS then around $29 for Verizon

Thanks for the info. However, I've spent the past 30 minutes scouring the 8800 forums (and, yes, using 'search') and I still can't find any info on how this is possible. I would like to think I'm pretty savvy and with some help from someone with your experience I'm sure I could figure this out.
Is there any way you could point me to the right thread, since you seem to have a better knowledge of it? Pretty pretty puhleeeeeeeze?
Thanks in advance (and to anyone else who can help as well!!!)

--mobrien118 | I am sorry I misunderstood you . You cant have a BB with out a Data plan. What I was saying and Demon was that you can have a shared plan and have only a single BB with a data plan | | Offline

I really REALLY hate Verizon! Also, I read your post about how you get better reception than t-mobile users and I have to say that I haven't been outside and not gotten a signal, and last weekend I was in NYC in a pub in Manhattan and out of 4 people (one has an iPhone with Cingy, one has a smasung with Sprint, one has a Moto-RAZR with Verizon and I have a t-mobile pearl) I was the only one with a signal. I'm pretty sure the device was the reason for the reception, not the carrier, but I didn't hesitate to tout it as a victory for t-mobile anyway!
Thanks again for your help all!

Its a deal between Verizon and RIM so dont just hate Verizon. And Razors get the worse reception of any phone. | | Offline

As for the $29.99 fee, that was something originally I wasn't too excited about since I didn't figure I'd need any data usage. I was actually a little miffed that Verizon and BB were forcing the data plan onto its users. However, I decided to go with the Pearl (through Verizon) anyway and I must say I'm very glad that I did. I now use the internet for a lot of very useful things and am a happy camper!

| I don't get that when people complain and wonder if they have to get a data plan for the pearl.....OK here is the skinny,Yes its trendy, yes its cool and yes everybody has one and there awesome .....but NO its not a phone, its a PDA so you NEED a data plan.....there MADE to be used for e-mailing,internet browsing and business stuff.I myself don't use it for business completely but I DO use it to it to most of its full potential. If your with TMo,you may be better off getting her a sidekick.....they have internet and are mostly a smart phone as the BB is.
Sorry If I came off as a jerk (lol look at the name) .....dint not intend to. | | Offline

The thing is that her pops pays for her plan (family plan) while she is still in school and he won't pay for data but in 1 year when she starts paying for her own plan she will pay for data. Quote:

Aside: She has seen me use the pearl and is impressed by its intuitive interface and ease of use (as compared to her RAZR, at least). I've had a 7100 and now 8100 for 4 years now, getting each at their release date and she has liked both of them. I think that, for the promo price of $99 with verizon, she would be well satisfied with it as a phone. And BTW, yes, it is a phone. It is ALSO all of those other great things. I find it to be a great phone with great reception.
Same for me. Not trying to be a jerk, just an explanation. It just looks like we are stuck getting some crappy Motorola variant again. D-:

| I have a Blackberry pearl 8130 with the Verizon Network and I don't have any data plan at all... I think you guys may have been mislead. oh yea and "the jerk" your wrong xD. I originally was signed up for the plan but after talking to a verzon CS rep i was able to remove my data plan after explaining to her I really didn't need the web or email. She then explained to me that if I did get on the internet it would be 1.99/MB without the data plan.

| the verizon systems will not allow them to remove the data plan, and even "if" they did, the system would automatically add the plan after some time. welcome to the forums, but that is what is meant by required. | | Offline

A data plan is automatically added to the account whenever the ESN of a Blackberry is added. There is no way to remove this.
If you like I can check your account for you to confirm, but I think you were misinformed on this one.
