when i set automatically dim backlight to off (so that the screen stays a consistant brightness regardless of light conditions), the screen still auto brightens and dims.

in other words, changing the setting from "on" to "off" makes no difference.

this is extremely frustrating. any insight would be much appreciated!

i have a telus 8130 (running 4.3), btw.

When set to off it should only go from whatever percentage you have it set to, to the full bright for sunlight. You can't set the device to stay on extra bright. In the past when you set the auto backlight to Off then it never went to the extra bright for sunlight.

interesting. i usually have mine set to 50%. when it's very bright, it auto brightens to 100%. I thought having the setting at "OFF" should override any brightness fluctuations. talk about a misnomer.

so this is perfectly normal behavior?

It's actually auto brightening to more than 100%. The problem was that when you set the autobacklight to off then the screen would stay at 100% but not go to the "extra bright mode" (higher than 100%) when outside. So now it doesn't auto-dim to less than 100%
