Arrow generic data plan help

Please Login to Remove!

After review the
"How to use BB on Generic Data Plan"

i still have couple questions. What im trying to understand is softwares like Opera Mini & AIM+ichat DO NOT need a data plan to work? And for web broswer, google maps, and GMAIL, those will only work with a data plan. Is that correct?

finally, where can i get a generic data plan that works in the U.S.? The example they used in the faqs was a Canadian provider.

basically my goal is to get these softwares up and running:
.Web browsing
.AIM
.google maps
.GMAIL

They DO need data. The FAQ is on a Generic data plan (meaning not a Blackberry Data Plan). You must have some sort of plan that supports data and accessing the internet to you any of those applications. The regular data plans are cheaper the the Blackberry Data Plans.

Does that make sense?

The data plan will have to be through your carrier. You can't go shopping for one, at least as far as I know. Search the forum here and see what people in your situation are doing on tmobile. I'd point you to a good link if I could, but I'd have to search as well.

im confused. So i get a data plan through Tmobile ($19.99) then i can download free 3rd party software? But if i get blackberry RIM software those i have to pay extra for?

i thought there are cheaper 3rd party data plans that i can get other than Tmobile that charged less like $5 monthly.

You have to pay Tmob $20/month for data (which is about $10 cheaper than ATT or VZN). That lets you use their network (EDGE). Some 3rd party software companies also charge you for their data (like all kinds of stock prices and sports scores and weather stuff scroll across the screen). But no email/browser/txt works without the $20 data plan.

I've read here on the forum over time of people getting some data functionality with whatever regular phone data plan from t-mobile. I just can't point you directly to good threads on that. But, as noted in the faq, you will not be able to use the blackberry-branded apps without the blackberry data plan, with is the $19.99 blackberry unlimited add on (TMO USA).

My point was that you cannot obtain a data plan of any sort from a third-party provider and run it on your blackberry. Whatever the data plan, it will be purchased from your carrier.

so i added the Tmobile data plan for $19.99. Unlimited email and web browsing.

Is a BlackBerry plan the same thing as a Tmobile Data Plan?

No, it's not the same thing.
You should get the personal BlackBerry Data Plan from T-Mobile. It's also $19.99 per month if you have a qualifying voice plan as well.

so if i get the tmobile data plan, which give me free email and web browsing, softwares like opera mini (web browsing) and IM+ chat are useless since i get those features when going with the TMO data plan?

Call customer service or check online to see what you just bought. Chances are - at least my bet is - you purchased the blackberry add on to a qualifying voice plan. If so, then you have the blackberry data plan, giving you the blackberry browser and BIS email, and you will also be able to run third party apps like opera mini, beyond411, etc, etc.

If you did not get the blackberry add on, the you bought the so-called "generic" data plan. And for the same price, apparently, you could have blackberry data as well as carrier data (but recognize the blackberry add on is an addition to the price of a voice plan).

bolistik, see these two links:

Unsupported Browser -- See Blackberry Unlimited Add-On

Unsupported Browser -- See T-Mobile Total Internet Add-on

The first one, Blackberry Unlimited Add-On is THE *blackberry* data plan, added to a qualifying voice plan.
